PROGRAMS, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ACROSS OKLAHOMA. AND THIS WEEK OUR METEOROLOGIST SABRINA BATES VISITED A STEM CLASS IN MOORE. SABRINA, THE TEACHER ACTUALLY KEEPS STUDENTS ENGAGED IN SCIENCE AND IN ROBOTICS, AND WE KNOW THAT COULD ABSOLUTELY BE HARD TO DO. WHEN I VISITED THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE STUDENTS WERE READY TO LEARN, EVEN WITH IT BEING THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. SO THIS IS A KIND OF A WALL THAT I KEEP THIS STEM TEACHER IN THE MOORE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT. I ASKED THEM WHAT WAS WHAT THEY WOULD GET OUT OF BEING IN A STEM CLASS. KEEPS HER MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN LEARNING SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH. IT IS SHOWING US REAL WORLD SKILLS THAT CAN BE USEFUL. ONE DAY. I DID STEAM LAST YEAR AND WE DID STUFF LIKE THIS AND IT JUST SOUNDED FUN TO READ TO DO IT AGAIN. I GET EXCITED WHEN MORE AND MORE OF THEM EVERY YEAR CHOOSE TO TAKE THIS CLASS. LORI CRIST BEGAN TEACHING STEM CLASSES AT SOUTHRIDGE JUNIOR HIGH THREE YEARS AGO, AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS KEEPS GROWING. THIS IS WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED SCIENCE TO BE. WAS THIS KIND OF CLASS IN THE MOORE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE STEM CLASSES FOR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS COVER MEDICAL AND ENGINEERING SUBJECTS. THIS YEAR, MY FAVORITE SUBJECT IS PROBABLY SCIENCE, AND NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE FLIGHT AND SPACE. THEY ONLY KNOW WHAT THEY SEE. SO IF I DON’T SHOW THEM, WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO SEE ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE OUT THERE FOR THEM. THE STEM CLASSES ACT AS A PATHWAY EARLY ON BECAUSE ONCE THE STUDENTS GET TO HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MOORE SCHOOL DISTRICT, THEY CAN EXPLORE SIMILAR CAREER PROGRAMS TO SEE IF IT’S FOR THEM. A LOT OF JUNIOR HIGH IS WHY AM I DOING THIS? THEY SEE THAT THE MATH AND THE SCIENCE AND THE READING AND EVERYTHING THAT THEY’VE TAKEN ALL THESE YEARS HAS A PURPOSE. AND IT ALL COMES TOGETHER INSIDE OF WHAT THEY’RE GOING
