Police released new details after a police officer shot a suspect during an hours-long standoff Monday in a southeast Oklahoma City neighborhood.
The situation started shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday when police said they received a call about a man shooting at another person near Southeast 41st Street and Shields Boulevard. When officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside a home and refused to come out.
Police said the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Mario Cruz, later broke through an attic wall and fired shots at officers. He eventually jumped to the ground from a hole in the attic wall, went to the back of the home and confronted officers with a pistol, according to a news release.
A member of the Oklahoma City Police Department's tactical unit eventually shot Cruz. He was taken to an area hospital, where he remains as of Wednesday morning. His condition, however, has not been released.
No other injuries were reported, according to police.
The officer who shot Cruz has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
