WERE IN DANGER. WELL, YEAH. ABBY, SOME OF THEM HAD TO BE ESCORTED FROM THEIR HOMES BY POLICE SHOTS RANG OUT BEFORE THE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED. NOW, WE DON’T KNOW WHO HE IS YET, BUT HE CAUSED A 6.5 HOUR STANDOFF. IT’S CRAZY. I MEAN, IT WAS LIKE I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW I HAD A NEIGHBOR LIKE THAT. IT WAS KIND OF SCARY. MID-AFTERNOON ON LABOR DAY, THIS WOMAN TOLD ME SHE GOT A KNOCK AT THE DOOR. SHE DIDN’T WANT TO BE SHOWN ON CAMERA, BUT SHE’S RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE SCENE OF THE STANDOFF AND I LAID DOWN ABOUT 2:00, AND THEN THEY STARTED BANGING ON MY DOOR AT LIKE 430, SAYING, HEY, YOU GUYS HAVE TO EVACUATE. AND THEY WERE LIKE, HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE? I’M LIKE, DUDE, I HAVE FOUR KIDS IN MY HOUSE WITHIN MINUTES, SHE FOUND HERSELF BEHIND A WALL OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. THEY TOOK US OUT AND WALKED US ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE END OF THE STREET AND TOLD US WE HAD TO WAIT THERE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. LOOKING BACK ON IT, SHE NOW UNDERSTANDS WHY I THINK THEY MADE US LEAVE JUST BECAUSE WE WERE LIKE IN THE DIRECT LINE OF FIRE. OCPD TELLS US THE LANDLORD OF THE PROPERTY WAS ATTEMPTING TO EVICT THE SUSPECT, BUT THEN THE SUSPECT FIRED AT THE LANDLORD. NO ONE WAS HIT BY THOSE BULLETS, BUT THE SUSPECT REFUSED TO COME OUT OF THE HOUSE DURING THIS TIME. WHILE HE WAS BARRICADED INSIDE, HE SHOT SEVERAL ROUNDS AT OFFICERS. HE CONTINUED TO SHOOT ROUNDS AT OFFICERS AT DIFFERENT MOMENTS, BUT THEN AROUND 1030 MONDAY NIGHT, THE SUSPECT CAME OUTSIDE ARMED. HAD ONE OFFICER DISCHARGED HIS FIREARM. STRIKING THAT PERSON. THE SUSPECT WAS TRANSPORTED TO AN AREA HOSPITAL. NOW, THE OFFICER THAT SHOT THE SUSPECT HAS BEEN PUT ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE. ALL WE KNOW ABOUT THE SUSPECT RIGHT NOW IS THAT HE IS ALIVE AT THE HOSPITAL. BUT POLICE TELL US TO EXPECT MORE DETAI
