OWNERS AS THEY PREP FOR OPENING DAY. AS FOOTBALL SEASON IS UNDERWAY, A NEW CONCEPT IS OPENING UP IN A FAMILIAR SPOT HERE IN NORMAN, ON THE CORNER OF LINDSAY AND BERRY. WHAT WAS ONCE KNOWN AS PENNY HILL WILL NOW BE COACH’S CORNER, AND IT’S RUN BY TWO FORMER SOONERS. I SPENT MY YOUTH YEARS HERE. MY TEENAGE YEARS HERE. IT JUST MADE ME A BETTER PERSON, A BETTER MAN. JUST TWO SOUTHERN BOYS WITH SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY WAYS. MAHLON WESLEY AND COREY WILSON PLAYED FOOTBALL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA IN THE 90S. NOW COMING BACK AS AN ADULT MAN, WE SAID, WHAT A BETTER PLACE TO BE AT RIGHT HERE. NOW, INSTEAD OF PLAYING FOOTBALL, THEY WANT TO BRING THE FAN EXPERIENCE THAT MAKES NORMAN SPECIAL. THIS IS THE VEIN WE’RE GOING DOWN WEST LINDSAY OR WEST LINDSAY. IT’S THE VEIN. IT’S ONE MILE AWAY FROM THE HEARTBEAT. THEIR NEW RESTAURANT, COACH’S CORNER, IS INSPIRED FROM THEIR COLLEGE DAYS. WHENEVER WE WENT TO DALLAS AND PLAYED OU TEXAS WEEKEND, WE WOULD ALWAYS MAKE OUR WAY TO COACH’S CORNER IN DALLAS. THEY SAY THE OWNER GAVE THEM PERMISSION TO USE THE NAME IN NORMAN. THIS USED TO BE THE PENNY HILL BUILDING, BUT IF YOU GO BACK AND DATE YOURSELF A LITTLE BIT FURTHER, THIS USED TO BE THE THE BUILDING THAT TOBY KEITH ORIGINALLY BUILT. AND WHILE IT WILL BE A SPORTS BAR AND FUN PLACE FOR FANS, THEY HAVE A BIGGER PLAN IN THE FUTURE. WE WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. YOU KNOW, WE’RE JUST NOT A SPORTS BAR, BUT WE WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. WE WANT TO DO A MENTORSHIP. THERE’S A LOT OF VARIATIONS OF THINGS THAT WE WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. THE RESTAURANT AND SPORTS BAR IS HIRING. THEY SAY YOU CAN COME IN AND APPLY AT ANY TIME, AND THEY PLAN TO OPEN ON FRIDAY.

As football season is underway, a new concept is opening up in a familiar spot on the corner of West Lindsey Street and South Berry Road, what was once known as “Penny Hill," will now be “Coaches Corner" and it’s run by two former Sooners.

“I spent my youth years here, my teenage years here, it just made me a better person, better man,” said Maylon Wesley, co-owner of Coaches Corner.

“Just two boys with southern hospitality ways,” said Corey Wilson, co-owner of Coaches Corner

Wesley and Wilson played football at OU in the '90s.

“Now, coming back as adult men, we say what a better place to be at than right here,” Wilson said.

Now, instead of playing football, they want to bring the fan experience that makes Norman so special.

“This is the vein, going down West Lindsey, it's one mile away from the heartbeat,” Wilson said.

“Whenever we went to Dallas and played OU Texas weekend, we would always make our way to Coaches Corner in Dallas,” said Wesley.

They said the owner of the Dallas restaurant gave them permission to use the name in Norman.

“This used to be the Penny Hill building, but if you go back and date yourself a little bit further, this used to be the building that Toby Keith originally built,” Wilson said.

And while it’ll be a sports bar and fun place for fans, they have a bigger plan in the future.

“We want to give back to the community, we want to do mentorship, there’s a lot of variations of things we want to give back to the community,” Wilson said.

The restaurant and sports bar is hiring, with the owners saying you can come in and apply any time and they’re set to open on Friday.
