At about 4:50 a.m., David Wayne Taylor, 48, of Ponca City, was driving a pickup truck west on E Hubbard Road, about 2 miles east of Ponca City, when the vehicle encountered a corrugated portion of the road. Troopers said Taylor lost control of the pickup, which went off the road, hit a ditch and then struck a tree.
Taylor and a 15-year-old passenger were thrown from the truck, according to the collision report. Troopers said seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.
Taylor was taken to a local hospital, where he died. The passenger was taken to a Kansas hospital and admitted in fair condition, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
