THIS WEEK. HERE’S ELGIN RUCKER. YEAH, BRIAN, THIS WEEK’S OKLAHOMA OPEN IS ONCE AGAIN STACKED WITH TALENT. WELL OVER 100 PRO GOLFERS, ABOUT 20 COLLEGE GOLFERS AND TEN AMATEURS, ONE OF WHICH ISN’T EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE UNLESS IT’S ONE OF THESE GOLF CARTS. AND EVEN THEN, HE STILL HAS TO HAVE A CHAPERON. THAT’S EMERSON MAJJHIMA, ONE OF THE TOP JUNIOR GOLFERS IN THE COUNTRY OUT OF EDMOND, OKLAHOMA. EMERSON WILL BE THE YOUNGEST PLAYER IN THE FIELD THIS WEEK AND MAY BE THE YOUNGEST EVER AT THE OKLAHOMA OPEN. HE’S LOVED GOLF SINCE HE WAS FIVE YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY BEEN 15 FOR LESS THAN A WEEK. GOT IN THE GAME EARLY, WHICH WAS GOOD AND JUST KEPT PLAYING AND FELL IN LOVE. SO RIGHT NOW MY CHOMPING, I JUST LIKE THE CHALLENGE. IT’S TOUGH JUST TRYING TO GET BETTER EACH DAY AND THAT’S IT, REALLY. STANDING FIVE FOOT FOUR AND WEIGHING A WHOPPING 108 POUNDS, EMERSON WAS STILL JUST 14 YEARS OLD WHEN HE EARNED HIS SPOT IN THIS YEAR’S TOURNAMENT WITH A SIXTH PLACE FINISH IN THE QUALIFYING ROUND. NOW HE’LL TRY TO BE ON PAR WITH THE PROS COMPETING AGAINST PLAYERS MUCH OLDER THAN HIM. LIKE FORMER OU GOLFER CHARLIE SAXON, WHO’S IN HIS TOURNAMENT GROUP. YEAH, IT’S FUN JUST TO COMPETE AGAINST THEM. SEE WHERE MY GAME IS AND I’M USED TO IT. I’VE PLAYED AGAINST A LOT OF OLDER KIDS, SO AND EVEN THOUGH HE COULD VERY WELL BE MAKING HISTORY JUST BY BEING IN THIS TOURNAMENT, EMERSON SAYS HIS ONLY FOCUS IS PLAYING WELL AND TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM THE BEST JUST HOW THEY KEEP THEIR COMPOSURE FOR WHENEVER THEY HIT A BAD SHOT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, JUST HOW THEY CARRY THEMSELVES.
