Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has signed a contract extension to stay with the team.“I am grateful to extend my contract with the Thunder and continue to play with the only organization that I have played for and have loved being a part of since I was drafted into the NBA,” Westbrook said. “I’m really excited about moving forward with this group of guys and continuing to play in front of the best fans in the world.”The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported Wednesday night that the deal is a three-year, $85 million contract renegotiation to keep the All-Star guard in Oklahoma City. On NBA draft night, the team traded Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic for Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilysova and rookie Domantas Sabonis.

Durant then told the team on July 4 of his intention to sign with the Warriors.

The team did not re-sign guard Dion Waiters, who left for the Miami Heat, but did sign FC Barcelona guard Alex Abrines, who was a 2013 draft pick of the Thunder.

Westbrook will likely look to take charge of the team in the absence of Durant, and build off the 2015-16 season, in which averaged 23.5 points, 10.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game.
