A new era of football will start this weekend as the University of Oklahoma football team kicks off its first season in the SEC and the Oklahoma State Cowboys aim to win the new-look Big 12.The Sooners start their season Friday night against Temple in Norman, while Oklahoma State is set to host two-time defending FCS champs South Dakota State on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.At the Palace on the Prairie, it's expected to be a packed house as Sooner fans celebrate their first game as official members of the SEC. The university is kicking off the holiday weekend with the full game day experience, even cancelling classes Friday for students.To ring in the start of the new SEC era, Visit Norman added a new experience for fans by launching the Crimson Fridays concert music series. Fans can enjoy live music.The Norman Police Department also shared a map showing how OU game day will impact traffic.Lindsey Street will be one-way for eastbound traffic pregame and and westbound traffic postgame from Elm Avenue to Berry Road. Brooks Street also will be one-way for eastbound traffic postgame from Jenkins Avenue to Classen Boulevard. Police said Jenkins Avenue will be one-way for northbound traffic from Brooks to Boyd streets.Boyd Street will be closed to all traffic between University Boulevard and Jenkins Avenue. White Street, Buchanan Avenue and Asp Avenue near Campus Corner will be closed before and after the game.The closures will begin four hours before the start of each home game, meaning 2 p.m. for Friday's kickoff. They will remain closed for several hours after the game ends.
