The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary findings into a plane crash that killed four people earlier this month near Sundance Airport.
According to the report, it was supposed to be a fun sightseeing flight between a father, his two sons and the pilot, who was a family friend. The plane never left the runway, veering during takeoff and hitting a hay bale before smashing through a fence and exploding as it hit a group of trees.
"We couldn't believe it. We know what it was right away when we've seen those lights and sirens," Andrew Bragg said. "As we got closer, we could see a big thick column of black smoke that was coming up."
The plane was a Beechcraft F33A. According to the NTSB report, the pilot's most recent FAA paperwork listed him as retired. The pilot, 68-year-old Michael Kaswan, owned the plane.
Quail Springs Baptist Church shared that the father, Daniel Swinehart, and his two sons, Landin and Hudson, were the passengers.
The new report did not reveal whether the crash was the result of mechanical or user error.
