OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. OKLAHOMA REPUBLICANS HAVE A CHOICE ELECT PRO-TRUMP REPUBLICAN PAUL BONDER OR STAND WITH CAREER POLITICIAN TOM COLE. THAT’S JUST ONE OF THE ADS RUNNING ON TV RIGHT NOW, AS FIVE CANDIDATES COMPETE TO SECURE THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION FOR OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH CONGRESSIONAL SEAT, EXPERTS SAY PRIMARIES, REGARDLESS OF THE POLITICAL PARTY, TEND TO BE ABOUT WHO’S THE MOST PARTIZAN WHEN THESE CHALLENGES HAPPEN. THEY ARE SORT OF A RACE TO THE FRINGES IN A LOT OF CASES. OH, YOU POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR TYLER JOHNSON SAYS. FOR A DISTRICT AS RED AS OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH, THE REELECTION IS THE PRIMARY IN JUNE, NOT THE GENERAL. SOMEBODY LIKE TOM COLE KNOWS THAT THAT NOVEMBER IS NOT GOING TO BE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO BE THE PRIMARY. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AT ALL. A COMMON WAY TO CONVINCE VOTERS SOMEONE IS THE BEST CONSERVATIVE CHOICE HAS BEEN TO MENTION CURRENT PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DONALD TRUMP. YOU HEARD IT IN PAUL BOEHNER’S AD AND CAN FIND TRUMP’S ENDORSEMENT ON TOM COLE’S CAMPAIGN WEBSITE. THE FOURTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT WENT SOMETHING LIKE 6,465% TO FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP IN 2020. UM, AND I THINK THAT, UM, YOU KNOW, TOM COLE REGULARLY GETS AROUND 65 TO 70%. POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR MELODY HUCKABEE ROWLETT SAYS SHE EXPECTS TOM COLE TO WIN OUT, BUT ALSO NOTES COLE’S 20 YEARS IN CONGRESS COULD HELP A CHALLENGER WHO’S NOT AN ESTABLISHED POLITICIAN. IT COMES BACK TO THE DISTRICT AND WHO PEOPLE TRUST. AND SO, UM, IF THEY FEEL THAT TOM COLE IS UNTRUSTWORTHY, THAT THAT’S DIFFERENT. UM, IF THEY FEEL HE’S OUT OF TOUCH OR, UM, THAT HE HAS NOT HAD THEIR BEST INTEREST IN MIND. AND VOTERS IN OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT WILL NOW HAVE FIVE WEEKS TO MAKE UP THEIR MINDS. THEIR PRIMARY IS SET FOR JUNE 18TH.
