SCENE. TROOPER BRIAN ROSE WAS MONITORING THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE HERE ON HIGHWAY 177 SOUTH OF STILLWATER. WHEN AUTHORITIES SAY A DRIVER HIT HIM HEAD ON, HE WAS OUT OF HIS CAR. IT LOOKED LIKE HE MIGHT HAVE KNOCKED HIS HEAD ON SOMETHING. HE WAS KIND OF HOLDING HIS HEAD. THE OKLAHOMA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS AN 84 YEAR-OLD DRIVER CROSSED THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC BEFORE SLAMMING INTO THE TROOPERS VEHICLE. AUTHORITIES SAY THE 42 YEAR OLD LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WAS ON A CONSTRUCTION SHIFT, HELPING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. A MAN WHO WORKS ACROSS THE STREET SAW THE AFTERMATH. THEY HAD AN OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO WAS PINNED IN THE CAR. HIS AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND THEY HAD A HARD TIME GETTING HIM OUT, SO THEY ACTUALLY HAD TO BUST A WINDOW TO GET HIM OUT. THE WITNESS TOLD KOCO THE STREET HAD BEEN GETTING PAVED OVER THE PAST WEEK. THERE’S NO MARKINGS, NO LINES ON THE ROAD. THERE’S NOT REALLY ANY CLEAR BARRIERS. AND HE’S BEEN KIND OF SITTING IN THE MEDIA AND KIND OF HELPED THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND AND, YOU KNOW, JUST FOR SAFETY REASONS. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE DRIVER AND TROOPER WERE TAKEN TO STILLWATER MEDICAL CENTER TO BE CHECKED OUT, BUT NEITHER SUFFERED LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was struck in a head-on collision at a construction site south of Stillwater on Friday. It looked like he might have knocked his head on something. He was holding his head," said Brandon Payton, a witness who saw the aftermath.An 84-year-old driver crossed three lanes of traffic before slamming into Rose's vehicle, according to authorities. At the time of the accident, the 42-year-old trooper was on a construction shift, assisting with traffic flow."They had an older gentleman who was pinned in the car," Payton said. "The airbags had deployed, and they had a hard time getting him out. There aren't any real barriers," Payton said. "He's been sitting in the median helping with the flow of traffic, for safety reasons."Both the driver and Rose were taken to Stillwater Medical Center for evaluation.
