A Putnam City North High School senior is among about 100 students nationwide to be selected for the U.S. Air Force Recruiting Service's Aim High Flight Academy.

Eli Batts, who is a student in the Putnam City Schools' aviation program, will participate in the flight academy this upcoming summer. The program is held at various universities worldwide, but it's unknown which one Batts will attend.
The Aim High Flight Academy is an aviation scholarship for a three-week introductory flight program. The academy's mission is to inform, influence and inspire the next generation of aviators and leaders, according to a news release.
After finishing the academy, students will understand the pathways to becoming an Air Force officer and an aviator, as well as earn up to 15 flight hours.
"Eli has a passion for flying and has goals of becoming a professional pilot," Putnam City Schools officials said in the news release. "He has realized his dream and gained invaluable opportunities in the aviation field while participating in the Putnam City aviation program, including the opportunity for this academy. Putnam City Schools is beyond proud of Eli for encompassing our district's slogan to 'Go Boldly.'"
