Grateful. That's the word Amber Flores uses to describe her experience as the OKC Spark head coach just to be with the Oklahoma City Spark to be chosen as the first head coach to have the opportunity opportunity to be with some of the best players in the world is really probably been one of my most softball experiences and to think she had no intention of coaching when she first got the call from team owner Tina Roberts. But when she heard the vision for the team, she was on board, I wanted to do this in Oklahoma City. This is *** place that I love. What do you see for the future of softball? I think we're just getting started. I think we're just scratching the surface with pro softball. Even though there's only four teams right now. I know there's *** lot of movement and growth. Softball is one of the fastest growing sports. Amber's love and passion for the game started at *** young age. Her dad was *** baseball coach back in her hometown of Calexico, California where she was born and raised. She started playing softball as *** little girl but really got serious when she was about 13. And the University of Oklahoma started recruiting about my senior year, having never left California and looking for *** new experience, she went for it. I remember on my visit when we landed here and I saw the oil rigs. I'm like, this is absolutely insane. Amber found success playing at OU. She was *** three time NCAA all American and was the first person to be named Big 12 player of the year twice. Coming to Oklahoma was the right move. Sometimes it's, it blows me away. What, how it's changed my life, how it's impacted my family. Amber is the only Hispanic woman head coach in women's professional fast pitch. Though, the number of Latinas in leadership roles in professional sports is growing. The numbers are still low in her role. Amber hopes to inspire other young Latinas. I don't know, it just makes me smile that I've come so far that I want other young girls, young ladies to see like we can do this. We can represent *** K five news.
