ABOUT SAFETY. YEAH. AND RIGHT OFF THE BAT, OKAY. CPS WANTS YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE SAFE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHENEVER YOU GO TO A FOOTBALL GAME, YOU HAVE TO WALK THROUGH THIS OPEN GATE SYSTEM, WHICH CAN DETECT ANY TYPE OF WEAPON AND IT’S TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE. WE HAVE DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS THAT ARE THINKING ABOUT THEIR SECURITY ALL THE TIME, WHETHER THAT’S IN THE CLASSROOM OR SPORTING EVENTS. OKARCHE CPS SAYS YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY ALWAYS COMES FIRST. THAT’S AFTER A SCHOOL SHOOTING KILLED FOUR IN GEORGIA. THIS WEEK AND SEVERAL THREATS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE AT DISTRICTS ACROSS THE METRO. WE HAVE OPEN GATE TECHNOLOGY. THAT SAME TECHNOLOGY THAT WE HAVE EVERY DAY AT OUR SCHOOLS, WE HAVE IT EVERY SPORTING EVENT AND AFTER SCHOOL EVENT. THIS OPEN GATE TECHNOLOGY WAS INSTALLED IN 2023 TO ALL OKC SCHOOLS. IT DETECTS WEAPONS AND ALLOWS FOR AN EASIER FLOW OF TRAFFIC. PRIOR TO THIS INSTALLATION, THE DISTRICT HAD METAL DETECTORS IF THEY BEAT AN ADULT, IT BEEPS. THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TO THEIR CAR TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS THAT’S CAUSING THE BEEP. IF IT’S A STUDENT, THEN THERE ARE DISTRICT RULES AND POLICIES THAT APPLY TO WEAPONS ON CAMPUS, AND SO THE APPROPRIATE DISCIPLINARY ACTION MAY BE TAKEN. OKAY. CPS SAYING THE UPGRADE WAS NEEDED FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE. WE’RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF OF THINGS THAT WE’VE SEEN IN THE NEWS LATELY. AND A REMINDER, IF YOU’RE HEADING OUT TO THE CLASSEN SA VERSUS TECUMSEH GAME OR ANY OKC GAME, NO BAGS OR WEAPONS ARE ALLOWED. AND IF YOU ARE A MINOR, YOU HAVE TO BE WITH AN ADULT.
