Oklahoma City metro school districts are taking action after receiving shooting threats in posts circulating online. Mid-Del Schools and Putnam City Schools said they will have extra law enforcement on campus on Friday. Star Spencer High School announced that backpacks will not be allowed on Friday. Oklahoma City Public Schools also confirmed a possible threat, and the district's security team is working with police. "Schools should be a sanctuary, a safe space where our children and educators can thrive without the fear of violence," Oklahoma City Public Schools officials said in a statement. "No parent/caregiver, student, or staff member should ever have to worry about such tragedies in a place meant for learning and growth. As a community and as a nation, we must do better — for the sake of our children and their future." The district also said people can help by reporting anything that feels suspicious or out of the ordinary to a 24-hour hotline at 405-587-7233. The threats come after a 14-year-old boy was accused of fatally shooting four people at a Georgia high school. Nine other people were injured, seven of them shot.Safety has been top of mind for school districts in Oklahoma, as OKCPS told KOCO 5 that they recently added more school resource officers and are doing more training.
