A WILD NEW VIDEO JUST IN TONIGHT SHOWING A MAN WITH A GUN INSIDE OF A LOCAL JAIL. IT CREATED QUITE A SCARE IN LINCOLN COUNTY. OUR EVAN ONSTOT JOINING US LIVE IN STUDIO. AND EVAN, THAT GUN WAS LOADED. AND OFFICIALS SAY THIS MAN TRIED TO FIRE IT. SO LET’S GET RIGHT TO THE VIDEO RIGHT NOW. THE SUSPECT HAD BEEN BROUGHT IN BY WELLSTON POLICE ON SUSPICION OF DRIVING DRUNK. YOU SEE HIM? HE’S BEEN ORDERED TO STAND UP, WATCH HIS RIGHT HAND. YOU CAN’T SEE IT. OFFICIALS SAY THAT HE HAD PULLED OUT A TINY GUN FROM HIS FRONT RIGHT POCKET. AND AS YOU SEE IT HERE, REPEATEDLY TRIES TO POINT IT AT THE HEAD OF THE DETENTION OFFICER. OFFICIALS SAY THAT THEY BELIEVE THAT HE PULLED THE TRIGGER. AT LEAST TWICE, BUT IT DID NOT FIRE. NOW, THAT SECOND OFFICER WHO JUST WALKED IN, NOW WE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT IS THE WELLSTON POLICE OFFICER WHO BROUGHT THE SUSPECT IN. NOW HE COMES AND GOES A COUPLE OF TIMES CALLING FOR BACKUP. THERE’S NO SOUND IN THIS VIDEO, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE THE SUSPECT HERE MOTIONED LIKE HE WANTED TO LEAVE THE DOOR AT THE END OF THE HALL. THEN HE TRIED TO GET THE OFFICER TO GO THROUGH THE DOOR ON THE LEFT. EVENTUALLY, THIS IS WHAT IT ENDS UP WITH. THE TWO OFFICERS STARTING TO WRESTLE WITH THE SUSPECT THAT POLICE OFFICER EVENTUALLY JUMPED IN. IT WAS A LONG TIME THOUGH, BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THAT GUN AWAY. WE HAVE POLICY AND PROCEDURES IN PLACE TO PREVENT THESE TYPE OF INCIDENTS FROM OCCURRING. WE’RE GOING TO BE DOING A REVIEW BOARD. IT’S SET FOR NEXT WEEK FOR JUST A REVIEW BOARD. SEE WHAT WE COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENT OR TO KEEP THIS FROM TAKING PLACE AGAIN. SO HERE’S THE SUSPECT, JERRY LEWIS LAWRENCE. HE LIVES IN JONES. WE’RE TOLD HE’S NOW FACING A NUMBER OF VERY SERIOUS CHARGES. SERGEANT BENNETT, WHO WE SPOKE TO TODAY, SAYS THAT HE BELIEVES HIS DETENTION OFFICER DID EVERYTHING HE COULD THAT HE FOLLOWED HIS TRAINING HERE. AND HE THEN REFERRED US TO THE WELLSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR QUESTIONS ON HOW THE SUSPECT WAS ABLE TO BRING A LOADED GUN INTO THE JAIL. HE DID TELL US THE WELLSTON POLICE OFFICER DID NOT HAVE HIS OWN WEAPON ON HIM BECAUSE BY JAIL POLICY THEY CANNOT BRING GUNS INTO THE JAIL. CHANDLER, Okla. — A man brought into Lincoln County jail on suspicion of drunk driving was found with a loaded gun, causing a significant scare.
