SPOKE WITH ADVOCATES ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS. IT’S NEW AT FOUR. WELL, MONDAY’S JAIL TRUST MEETING WILL BE FOCUSING ON THE MEDICAL SERVICES AT THE COUNTY JAIL. CURRENTLY, TURNKEY CONTRACT IS UP FOR REVIEW WITH THEM, BUT ADVOCATES SAY THEY SHOULD STEP OUT COMPLETELY. YOU NEED TO TAKE A LONG, HARD LOOK AT WHO YOU’RE DOING BUSINESS WITH. THE CONTRACT FOR TURNKEY HEALTH IS UP FOR REVIEW BY THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY JAIL TRUST AFTER EXPIRING AT THE END OF JUNE. SO FAR, THEY’VE BEEN PROVIDING SERVICES ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASIS. TURNKEY PROVIDES MEDICAL CARE TO DETAINEES AT THE JAIL, AND COME MONDAY, THE TRUST WILL DISCUSS THAT CONTRACT AND POSSIBLY CONTRACTING WITH AN INDEPENDENT MEDICAL CONSULTANT. AT LEAST THEY’RE LISTENING AND WE WANT TO GIVE THEM PROPS FOR THAT. THERE’S ANOTHER AGENDA ITEM FOR THE JAIL CEO TO REQUEST BIDS FOR A SERVICE PROVIDER. ADVOCATES HAVE BEEN SOUNDING THE ALARM ABOUT DEATHS INSIDE THE JAIL, AND THEY BLAME TURNKEY. TURNKEY IS THE WORST OF THE WORST. IN A STATEMENT TO KOCO, TURNKEY SAYS IF THE AUTHORITY CHOOSES TO ENTER INTO A NEW CONTRACT WITH TURNKEY, THEY WOULD BE PROUD TO CONTINUE PROVIDING SERVICES FOR ITS PATIENTS. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE COUNTY JAIL TELLS ME PROVISION OF MEDICAL CARE IS A REQUIREMENT AND PENDING APPROVAL BY THE TRUST, THERE IS LIKELY TO BE BOTH SHORT AND LONG TERM SOLUTIONS EXPLORED IN THE MONTHS AHEAD AND THE UPCOMING JAIL TRUST MEETING IS MONDAY AT 1:00.
