NEXT BIG INTERVIEW. AFTER EARNING A COLLEGE DEGREE, GETTING A JOB INTERVIEW IS THE NEXT STEP FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS, BUT PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE IS PRICEY. THAT’S WHY THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA IS HELPING STUDENTS DRESS THE PART. I DID MY FIRST INTERNSHIP FAIR LAST YEAR AND FELT A LITTLE UNDERPREPARED, BUT THIS IS GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE, FEEL A LOT BETTER AND MORE CONFIDENT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO INTERVIEWING. FROM FULL SUITS TO BLOUSES AND BLAZERS FOR THE FIRST TIME, OU STUDENTS CAN SHOP FOR PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS ATTIRE ON CAMPUS AT NO COST. TWICE A SEMESTER, THE OU FOOD PANTRY WILL TRANSFORM INTO THE OU CAREER CLOSET IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OU CAREER CENTER, WHICH COACHES STUDENTS INTO LANDING THAT DREAM JOB. WE TALK ABOUT DRESSING FOR SUCCESS AND IF YOU DON’T FEEL GOOD IN WHAT YOU’RE WEARING, THEN YOU’RE NOT GOING TO PRESENT YOUR BEST SELF. TIE IT IN WITH RECRUITING SEASON. SO IT’S THE WEEK BEFORE OUR BIG JOB AND INTERNSHIP FAIRS AND ON CAMPUS INTERVIEWING SEASON. I FOUND IT TO BE THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING THROUGH MY CLOSET AND REALIZED I DON’T HAVE ANYTHING THAT’S APPROPRIATE FOR THAT. THE UNIVERSITY OPENED THE CAREER CLOSET DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL. BY THE END OF THE DAY, IT WAS CLEANED OUT. WE HAD 50 PEOPLE IN THE FIRST 30 MINUTES WALK THROUGH, AND WE HAD 220 FOLKS STOP BY THAT ENTIRE DAY. PEOPLE WOULD COME OUT OF THE DRESSING ROOM AND THEIR OUTFITS AND BE LIKE, WHAT DO YOU THINK? AND THEY WERE SO EXCITED. IT WAS ANOTHER SHOPPING FRENZY FRIDAY AS STUDENTS LINED UP OUTSIDE THE DOORS TO GET IN. UNIVERSITY STAFF SAY IT’S A CLEAR INDICATOR OF STUDENT NEEDS. NOW THEY’RE ASKING ALUMNI AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DIG THROUGH THEIR WARDROBE AND DONATE WHAT THEY CAN WITHOUT THE COMMUNITY. DONATING WILL STRUGGLE, RIGHT? BUT SO FAR, IT’S BEEN AMAZING.
