PEOPLE TO SOONER NATION. WELL AS OU ENTERS THE SEC, THESE FANS BEHIND ME ARE TALKING ABOUT TAKING THEIR TAILGATES TO THE NEXT LEVEL. YOU CAN SEE THEY’RE STARTING TO UNLOAD THINGS FROM CARS AND THEY JUST GOT THE GO AHEAD TO LITERALLY STAKE THEIR CLAIM AND START PUTTING UP TENTS. YOU CAN’T MARK IT UNTIL NOON DAY BEFORE GAME DAY, AND THEN AT FIVE TODAY WE COME BACK AND WE TAKE THE MARKINGS DOWN AND WE SET UP THE TENTS JUST UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE PALACE ON THE PRAIRIE. THURSDAY, STUDENTS AND FANS ARE MAKING SURE THEY HAVE A SPOT TO TAILGATE. WE GOT HERE LAST NIGHT AROUND 10 P.M., I WOULD SAY, AND USUALLY IT’S TRADITION AROUND OUR FRATERNITY THAT WE CAMP OUT FOR AT LEAST A DAY OR TWO. THIS OU PARKING LOT IS FULL OF STUDENTS, BUT SOON THEIR CARS WILL BE MOVED OUT FOR THE FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR. AND TAILGATERS TELL ME THEY’RE READY FOR A NEW ROUND OF OPPONENTS TO COME THROUGH. WE WELCOME THEM IN OPEN ARMS. COME IN HERE. YOU KNOW, IF YOU’RE HUNGRY, YOU DRINK. WE GOT A BAR. SOME OF THESE TAILGATERS SHOW UP HOURS BEFORE THEY’RE ALLOWED TO EVEN SET UP WITH THE SEC. I FEEL LIKE THE TAILGATE SPOTS ARE A LITTLE BIT MORE COMPETITIVE THIS YEAR. SO WE WANT TO HAVE AN UPPER HAND. ONE FRATERNITY GROUP IS EVEN SAVING THEIR SETUP BY SENDING MEMBERS OUT IN SHIFTS. WE JUST STAY HERE, GET A COUPLE CHAIRS, SIT ON THE BENCHES, WAIT AROUND UNTIL 12 HITS. OU RECENTLY OPENED SOME NEW TAILGATING SPOTS ON LINDSAY STREET AS THEY HEAD INTO THE SEC. FRANCISCO LOPEZ TELLS ME HE’S EXCITED TO SHOW THEIR NEW CONFERENCE HOW THEY TAILGATE, BUT HOPES FOR EVEN MORE EXPANSION IN THE FUTURE. BUT I MEAN, IT’S THE FIRST YEAR IN SEC. WE JUST I FEEL LIKE THE UNIVERSITY IS JUST GETTING STARTED. THE GAME STARTS AT FRIDAY NIGHT AT 6 P.M. THAT YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME THAT THEY’RE GETTING READY THERE. THEY TELL ME THEY’RE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE HERE MAN
