TWISTERS IS ALREADY TAKING OVER THE BOX OFFICE IN ITS OPENING WEEKEND, RAKING IN ROUGHLY $80 MILLION IN AMERICA AND CANADA IN JUST ITS FIRST FEW DAYS. YOU’LL SEE EL RENO. YOU’LL SEE CHICKASHA. YOU’LL SEE LANDSCAPES THAT THAT LOOK FAMILIAR. THE SEQUEL TO THE 1996 CULT CLASSIC IS ONCE AGAIN, ALL ABOUT OKLAHOMA’S WILD WEATHER, AND IT WAS MOSTLY SHOT RIGHT IN OUR BACKYARD WITH THE HELP OF PRAIRIE SURF STUDIOS. BUT ULTIMATELY, LEE ISAAC CHUNG, THE DIRECTOR HE WANTED IT IN OKLAHOMA, WANTED IT TO FEEL REAL. AND SO WE GOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE HIM. YOU’LL LIKELY RECOGNIZE SOME OF THE LOCATIONS AND MAYBE EVEN SOME OF THE EXTRAS, LIKE APRIL WARREN, WHO WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO RETURN TO THE BIG SCREEN IN THE BACKGROUND OF A BIG MOMENT AND ALL THE SPECIAL EFFECTS AND THOSE BIG WIND FANS AND EVERYTHING FLYING AROUND. SO IT WAS PRETTY CRAZY. IT’S PRETTY EXCITING DOING THAT. OF COURSE, IT LIVES UP TO ITS TITLE FULL OF ACTION AND A TORNADO FILLED PLOT. OH, I’M SURE THERE’LL BE A LOT OF, UH, REALISTIC SCENES AND MAYBE SOME THAT ARE MOVIE MADE. I THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE SOME THINGS OVER EXAGGERATED, BUT I HAVEN’T SEEN VERY MANY TRAILERS, SO I’M KIND OF COMING IN BLIND ON THIS ONE. IT’S A MOVIE OKLAHOMANS CAN TAKE PRIDE IN KNOWING WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LIVE IN TORNADO ALLEY, AND WHILE IT WINS BIG AT THE BOX OFFICE, IT’S LEAVING AN ECONOMIC IMPACT LOCALLY AS WELL. From Friday to Sunday, the film grossed $80.5 million, blowing past its nearest competitor, “Despicable Me 4,” which grossed $23.8 million over the same period, according to Box Office Mojo.

Internationally, “Twisters” grossed $42.7 million over the weekend, bringing the worldwide total to $123.2 million.
