O-TAY SAYS THAT THEY’RE PUTTING UP BRIDGE BEAMS THIS WEEKEND, SO IT MIGHT BE A BIT OF A HEADACHE FOR THOSE WANTING TO USE THE ROAD. NOW, THE WESTBOUND LANES TOWARD THE METRO. THOSE WILL CLOSE FIRST STARTING TONIGHT AND OVERNIGHT. AND THEN TOMORROW SATURDAY THE EASTBOUND LANES WILL CLOSE OVERNIGHT. THAT BRIDGE WAS BUILT IN 1953 WHEN THE TURNER TURNPIKE WAS BUILT, SO IT WAS AN ORIGINAL BRIDGE TO THE SYSTEM. IT HAS MET ITS LIFESPAN AT 71 YEARS. THIS BRIDGE NEAR STROUD, NOW SET TO BE REPLACED AS PART OF AN $8.3 MILLION PROJECT, PART OF OTAS ACCESS OKLAHOMA PLAN. BUT THE REPLACEMENT WON’T COME WITHOUT SOME TRAFFIC HEADACHES. STARTING TONIGHT, RIGHT AT 9 P.M. WESTBOUND AND I-44 TURNER TURNPIKE WILL BE CLOSED BETWEEN STATE HIGHWAY 99 AND STROUD, AND THE STROUD SERVICE PLAZA ABOUT A MILE AND A HALF UP THE WESTBOUND LANES OF THE TURNPIKE WILL BE CLOSED OVERNIGHT FRIDAY, AND EASTBOUND LANES WILL CLOSE OVERNIGHT SATURDAY, SAY THE CONSTRUCTION IS EXPECTED FROM 9 P.M. TO 6 A.M., AND OTA SAYS DRIVERS WILL HAVE A DETOUR. THEY WILL NEED TO EXIT TO STATE HIGHWAY 66, AND THEN THEY CAN GET BACK ON THE TURNER PASS. THE CLOSURE, OTA SAYS THIS IS ALSO AN IMPORTANT STEP NEEDED FOR THE FUTURE WIDENING OF THE TURNPIKE TO THREE LANES EACH WAY. NOW THEY’LL ALSO BE DOING SOME RESEARCH WHILE THEY HAVE THOSE LANES CLOSED. OTA SAYS THAT THIS PHASE, THIS WHOLE BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION PHASE NEAR STROUD, SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY EARLY FALL.
