Police told KOCO 5 that the shooting happened shortly after midnight at a complex near Wilshire Boulevard and Rockwell Avenue.
The incident started after the complex's security guard tried asking two people who did not live there to leave. At that point, police said one of the people tried to wrestle the security guard's gun away from him.
During the scuffle, the security guard was shot in the hand and the suspect was grazed in the shoulder by a stray bullet, according to police.
The security guard was taken to a hospital, and the other person involved was taken into custody. The second person who was asked to leave the complex was not involved in the argument.
