Sabrina Bates
MeteorologistMeteorologist Sabrina Bates serves as weekend meteorologist for the KOCO 5 First Alert weather team. Bates joined KOCO 5 from KFSM Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she forecast for northwest Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma as weekend meteorologist and reported as the weekday science reporter. At KFSM, she covered several record-breaking weather events, including the historic Arkansas River flooding in 2019 and a nighttime EF-2 tornado as it tracked over 30 miles.
Before joining KOCO 5, Sabrina was already forecasting Oklahoma weather, covering several counties in eastern Oklahoma and would track conditions across the rest of the Sooner State to show "what's coming" to prepare viewers. She's experienced with it all: severe storms, blizzards, and everything in between.
Sabrina has a deep-rooted passion for STEM science education. She created a weekly series to get kids excited about learning using hands-on science. Her interest in weather began at a young age while growing up in Chicagoland. Now, she loves being able to share her passion for weather and connect with viewers in the community.
Sabrina graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, along with secondary disciplines in Mathematics and Digital Media. Her passion for severe weather grew while participating in a Convective Field Study during college. Sabrina and her team intercepted four tornadoes during the 10-day storm chase in the Southern Plains.
When Sabrina is not covering Oklahoma's weather, she enjoys being active outside and exploring national and state parks. She loves hiking in Oklahoma’s Wichita Mountains, and can't wait to explore more of our beautiful state. Sabrina and her fiancé are both meteorologists and self-described weather nerds. They live in Norman, Oklahoma.
