HUNGER. K-O-C-O’S ALEJANDRO BRIONES WAS THERE. MORNING. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL, TOO. JUST IN TIME FOR THANKSGIVING, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LINED UP OUTSIDE OF SOUTHERN HILLS BAPTIST CHURCH IN SOUTHWEST OKC FOR A FREE TURKEY. THE FIRST PERSON TO GET IN LINE ARRIVED AT SEVEN LAST NIGHT. IT’S A BLESSING. 2000 TURKEYS WERE HANDED OUT. THIS IS THE 14TH ANNUAL DAY OF KINDNESS. THE FIRST YEAR STARTED WITH 400 BOXES AND HAS GROWN EVER SINCE. WE REALIZED A COUPLE OF THINGS. ONE, PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY RIGHT NOW. IT’S ONE THING TO GIVE THEM A FROZEN TURKEY, BUT IF THEY HAVEN’T EATEN IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, IT DOESN’T HELP THEM. SO EVER SINCE YEAR ONE, WE HAVE FED PEOPLE, SO WE HAVE GRILLS FIRED UP OVER HERE. WE’RE FEEDING EVERYBODY THAT’S HERE. HAMBURGERS, HOT DOGS AFTER THE SECOND YEAR. NOBLE MCINTYRE ENLISTED THE HELP OF HIS FELLOW PLAINTIFF TRIAL LAWYERS AND STARTED RAISING ABOUT $150,000 A YEAR IN ORDER TO REACH MORE PEOPLE. THE LINE THIS MORNING WRAPPING AROUND THE CHURCH IS SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE. LAST YEAR, TURKEYS WERE $1.19 A POUND. THIS YEAR IT’S $1.93 A POUND. SO THE FOLKS THAT ARE RIGHT ON THE EDGE THAT ARE ALREADY STRUGGLING, THAT’S EVEN HARDER FOR THEM. SO THE NEED IS HUGE. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT BY HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HERE. FAMILIES WE SPOKE TO SAY THIS TURKEY GIVEAWAY WILL MAKE A BIG IMPACT ON THEIR HOLIDAY. IT HELPS A LOT. I MEAN, WHEN YOU HAVE A LARGE FAMILY, IT HELPS A LOT. YOU KNOW, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS. IF YOU’D LIKE TO GET INVOLVED, LAWYERS FIGHTING HUNGER IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO FIGHTING HUNGER FOR THESE

One, people are hungry, Now, it’s one thing to give them a frozen turkey, but if they haven’t eaten in a couple of days, it doesn’t help them," said Noble McIntyre, a managing partner at McIntyre Law. "We have grills fired up. We’re feeding everyone that’s here hamburgers, hotdogs."After the second year, McIntyre enlisted the help of his fellow plaintiff trial lawyers and started raising around $150,000 a year in order to reach more people. Friday's line wrapped around the church. "Food is so expensive. Last year, a Turkey was $1.13 a pound. This year, they’re $1.93 a pound, so the folks that are right on the edge, they’re already struggling. That’s even harder for them, so the need is huge, and you can see that by how many people are here," said McIntyre. Families at the event said the turkey giveaway will make a big impact on their holiday. "It helps a lot. I mean, when you have a large family, it helps a lot for a little bit. Every little bit helps," said Janice Larson, who received a turkey. For these families, the turkey will bring extra joy to the dinner table.
