YEAH. MIKA TODAY’S COMMUNITY OUTREACH WAS FOR THEM TO EDUCATE ON DRUG ABUSE AND PREVENT OVERDOSES. THEY GAVE OUT HUNDREDS OF BAGS FULL OF NARCAN, SOME OF THEM, AND THEY EVEN HAD THE NEW NARCAN VENDING MACHINES FOR ANYBODY THAT WANTED IT. WE WANT TO HAVE FUN AND CONNECT PEOPLE WITH RESOURCES, BUT ALSO WE KNOW PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION AND THEY NEED HELP. AND WE KNOW THAT IMPACTS EVERYBODY IN THE FAMILY, NOT JUST THE PERSON DEALING WITH ADDICTION. THE SUBSTANCE USE PREVENTION ALLIANCE SAYS TODAY MARKS THEIR FOURTH PREVENTION AND RECOVERY IN THE PARK. JUST SHARING HELP AND HOPE AND HAVING FUN WHILE DOING IT. WE’VE GOT GAMES AND BOUNCE HOUSES, SO IT’S A REALLY GREAT EVENT. WE’VE GOT OVER 40 RESOURCES OUT HERE JUST SHARING THINGS THAT HELP MAKE A WHOLE HEALTHY FAMILY. THEY TELL ME EVENTS LIKE THESE ARE FOR EVERYONE, SO WE WANT TO CONNECT EVERYBODY IN THE FAMILY TO HELPFUL RESOURCES. SO THAT MIGHT BE RECOVERY ORGANIZATIONS OR TREATMENT ORGANIZATIONS OR NALOXONE, SUPA SAYS. THEY HEAR FROM PEOPLE AT THESE EVENTS WHO DIDN’T KNOW THESE RESOURCES WERE AVAILABLE TO THEM. AFTER THE EVENT, WE HEAR REALLY GREAT FEEDBACK FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE COME. WE MIGHT SEE THEM AT A FUTURE EVENT AND THEY WE HEAR STORIES OF PEOPLE USING THAT NALOXONE KIT TO SAVE A LIFE. A community program hoping to save lives held its annual event at Scissortail Park on Saturday evening. The Prevention and Recovery in the Park, put on by Developing Caring Communities Committed to Action and Substance Use Prevention Alliance, was all about educating the community on the dangers of fentanyl, while helping people prevent and understand overdoses and drug abuse. >> Download the KOCO 5 AppDCCCA gave out hundreds of bags with Narcan, and the event even had the new Narcan vending machine for anyone who wanted it. “We want to have fun and connect people with resources, but, also, we know there are people who are struggling with addiction, and they need help," said Lisa Harper with DCCCA.
