First Alert Storm Chaser Nick Smith has loved weather since he was young. This passion was enhanced by living through the historic May 3, 1999 F-5 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma. He also lived through a near miss with Hurricane Hugo in Jacksonville, Florida in 1989. Smith has been tracking storms in Oklahoma since 2007. May 20th 2013 was a difficult day for Nick and many fellow Oklahomans as he watched his community in Moore and South OKC struck by an EF-5 Tornado. Over the next few months Nick worked with many different organizations and families in the community. He helped bring both immediate relief and assist with restoration for the many families who lost so much. In 2018 Nick had the opportunity to help provide Hurricane relief with Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael, working with the Salvation Army. He’s dedicated to serving his neighbors with all his fellow First Alert storm chasers and the entire KOCO 5 team.
