Derik Kline joined the KOCO 5 First Alert storm chasing team in April of 2020. Derik has over 20 years chasing experience, including covering 400-plus tornadoes and 10-plus hurricanes. Derik even got on the northside of a tornado on his first day of chasing - an amazing accomplishment in the storm chasing community.

Around here, when the thunder rolls, Derik is there. From an early age, he has been fascinated by severe weather. A true Oklahoman, Derik went on his first storm chase at the age of 16.

Derik’s passion for weather led him to create Hail Trace LLC, his own weather consulting company in 2010 that focuses on weather forensics and real-time severe weather tracking.

When he's not spending time with his wife and four children, you can probably find him pursuing his other true love, storm chasing.
