Multiple people were shot Saturday along Interstate 75 in a rural area south of Lexington, Kentucky, authorities said.Mayor Randall Weddle has confirmed with WYMT that an active shooting is in progress in London.Shots were fired on Interstate 75 near Exit 49, according to a social media post from the city of London's mayor. According to officials, five people were shot and three people were injured in car crashes connected to the incident. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says all victims are in stable condition.Deputies are currently looking for Joseph A. Couch, 32, as a person of interest. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear also took to social media, saying law enforcement has shut the interstate down in both directions at Exit 49 and asking people to avoid the area.“I am receiving initial reports from the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security — together we are actively monitoring the situation and offering support in any way possible,” Beshear said in a post on the social platform X. “Please pray for everyone involved.”Law enforcement shut the interstate down in both directions at Exit 49 for three hours Saturday evening.Interstate 75 near London has since been reopened in both directions.The Kentucky House Majority Caucus released the following statement:“While the situation at I-75 and US 25 is ongoing, we ask community members to avoid the area and request those who live in the vicinity remain in their homes as local law enforcement and the Kentucky State Police work.
