DETAILS AS THEY COME IN. AND THIS ALSO DEVELOPING OVERNIGHT. A SUSPECT SHOT BY POLICE AFTER AN HOURS LONG STANDOFF. OUR KOCO CAMERAS WERE THERE AS THE INCIDENT BEGAN MONDAY EVENING NEAR SOUTHEAST 41ST AND SHIELDS. KOCO SHELBY MONTGOMERY JOINS US FROM THAT AREA WITH NEW INFORMATION JUST IN FROM POLICE OVERNIGHT. GOOD MORNING. THE INVESTIGATION HAS CONTINUED INTO THE MORNING AND AS YOU CAN SEE, POLICE HAVE BLOCKED OFF A PORTION OF THAT NEIGHBORHOOD WITH THE CRIME SCENE TAPE. ALSO ON SCENE, SEVERAL CRIME SCENE UNITS, AS WELL AS THE ARMORED VEHICLES THAT WERE USED DURING THAT STANDOFF LAST NIGHT. POLICE SAY IT STARTED AFTER THE LANDLORD TRIED TO EVICT HIS TENANT, AND THAT’S WHEN THE SUSPECT POINTED HIS GUN AT THE LANDLORD AND FIRED, MISSING THE LANDLORD. POLICE WERE CALLED OUT TO THE SCENE, BUT THE SUSPECT REFUSED TO COME OUT OF THE HOUSE. DURING THIS TIME, WHILE HE WAS BARRICADED INSIDE, HE SHOT SEVERAL ROUNDS AT OFFICERS. HE CONTINUED TO SHOOT ROUNDS AT OFFICERS AT DIFFERENT MOMENTS. ABOUT SIX HOURS LATER, THE SUSPECT EVENTUALLY CAME OUT AND PRESENTED A THREAT TO OFFICERS. ONE OFFICER THEN SHOT THE SUSPECT. THE SUSPECT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THEIR CONDITION IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME, BUT WE DID CHECK WITH POLICE WHO SAID LAST THEY HEARD HE WAS ALIVE. WE DO KNOW NO ONE ELSE WAS INJURED. REPO

The suspect then allegedly fired shots into the air when the landlord approached, hitting no one.Officers were called to the scene, and the armed suspect barricaded himself inside the home. “At that time, our tact team was activated, and we got an arrest warrant for that person inside the home. Negotiations began,” Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said. "During this time while he was barricaded inside, he shot several rounds at officers. Police said an officer then shot the suspect.He was taken to an area hospital, but the extent of his injuries are unknown. The standoff situation unfolded at a home near Southeast 41st Street and Shields Boulevard.

Police said the incident started when a landlord tried to evict a tenant. The suspect then allegedly fired shots into the air when the landlord approached, hitting no one.

Officers were called to the scene, and the armed suspect barricaded himself inside the home.

About six hours later, the suspect eventually came out and “presented a threat” to officers. Police said an officer then shot the suspect.

He was taken to an area hospital, but the extent of his injuries are unknown. No other injuries were reported.

The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on administrative leave.
