Update: Newest September Outlook
Changes on the way for September
Updated: 8:48 PM CDT Sep 2, 2024
We are now in the month of September. And so looking ahead, I was hoping that this forecast would trend *** little bit different. It did in some ways, but not in all the ways compared to some of these September forecasts, we've been giving you for the last couple of months. So here's the newest outlook for September temperature wise. If you're highlighted in blue, then there's *** pretty good chance that you can expect to see below average temperatures. And we are certainly going to see that across Oklahoma and Texas. Temperatures are gonna run *** bit cooler than normal for the month of September, but not *** whole lot, but it will still be enough to notice. Now, on the other hand, well, I think *** lot of us are excited for *** cold front to come in here and that help cool these temperatures down cold fronts this time of the year. If they drop too far down to the south, then they can really dry out the air behind it. And so we see these below average temperatures likely extending deep into Texas. And that means that as these fronts sweep through here, they're gonna pull *** lot of rain chances with them, which means that the rain outlook does not look good at all. And this has been very consistent in the data that I've been looking at for many months. Now is that September was likely going to be *** drier than normal month for most of Oklahoma. *** lot of the data that I saw was actually showing somewhere right around I 44 as being the dividing line. And so the newest data that we have coming in for early this month shows pretty close to I 44 still continues to be the area where we're likely going to be running drier than normal. Now, *** little wetter than normal for those in far northwestern Oklahoma and out across the Panhandle here, but otherwise we really needed the moisture. I know we've had *** good amount of rain. Some of us have during the month, the last couple of months here, but it would have been nice to have this wet September with us because after this month is over, you know, our average monthly rainfall really begins to drop off here. So unfortunately, September known for moisture but not this year, drier than normal conditions are expected. We'll keep *** close eye on it.

Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane shows the newest outlook for September and the changes on the way.Long range data has been coming in for a while now for September and there have been a lot of consistencies in the recent months about September. Not much has changes from the data that we have seen for the past few months. September is going to be a very dry month for many of us! September is usually he 3rd driest month of the year for us and the moisture that falls in September usually helps get us through the dry months of winter. So, seeing the data consistent with a dry September and nothing has changed shows that this month will likely turn quite dry for us. On the other hand, the temperature outlook looks quite nice. Summer heat can sometimes last deep into September and leave us hot and begging for fall to arrive. But, this year looks different as the newest outlook shows we may continue with this slightly "cooler than normal" pattern.
