BREAKING OVERNIGHT, A FAMILY ESCAPED A HOME ON FIRE IN OUR KOCO CREW ON THAT SCENE NEAR SOUTHEAST 59TH AND POST ROAD EARLY THIS MORNING. AND SADLY, WE ARE REPORTING THAT FOUR PETS WERE LOST IN THIS. CREWS SAY THE FIRE STARTED ON THE BACK DECK OF THE HOME, TRAVELING UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR. THEY TELL US THE PEOPLE LIVING INSIDE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT OUT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY AGAIN, THEIR PETS DID NOT. THEY TELL US THE HOUSE HAD HEAVY SMOKE AND FIRE DAMAGE AND CREWS FACED EXTRA CHALLENGES AS THEY WORK. TO PUT THIS FIRE OUT. WE’VE GOT AN EXTRA CREW HERE TO RELIEVE BECAUSE OF THE HEAT AND AND THE FACT THAT IT’S A NON HYDRANT AREA. SO WE’RE HAVING TO SHUTTLE WATER IN. TOOK A LITTLE LONGER TO GET THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL. Crews said the fire started on the back deck and traveled to the second story. The family living there got to safety, but their four pets didn't make it out. Oklahoma City Fire Department officials said the house has heavy smoke and fire damage. Took a little longer to get the fire under control," Greg Lindsay, with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, said.
