Benny Murphy bought his lucky ticket from Quickmart on U.S. 70 West in Mebane and won a $439,527 jackpot prize.

"They made a joke about lower payments if I won the lottery," said Murphy.

Murphy claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $314,262.

Officials said he plans to pay off his house, go on a fishing trip, and save some of his winnings.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery's website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
