IN THIS BUILDING, IT IS REMARKABLE. THE HISTORY OF OU FOOTBALL WITH THE SEVEN HEISMAN TROPHIES AND ALL THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES. BUT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS ONE RIGHT HERE. THE 2000 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY, BECAUSE SETH LUTTRELL WAS ON THAT TEAM AND NOW HE IS BACK AT OKLAHOMA. HE’S BACK IN OKLAHOMA AS THE NEW OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. AND HIS FAMILY HAS A LOT OF TIES HERE IN THIS ROOM, SPECIFICALLY TWO TROPHIES. BACK TO BACK. HIS DAD WON THAT ONE AT OSU. SETH WON THAT ONE AT OSU. AND I SAT DOWN WITH THE BRAND NEW OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, WHO IS IN A LOT OF WAYS, MR. OKLAHOMA, WHEN YOU LEFT, DID DID YOU THINK YOU’D BE BACK? HOPEFULLY. YOU KNOW, I ALWAYS DREAMED ABOUT COMING BACK. YOU KNOW, MY DREAMS GROWING UP WERE TO TO PLAY FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA AND THEN ALSO BE ABLE TO COACH FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA. THOSE WERE MY TWO GOALS IN LIFE. AND AFTER FOOTBALL. IT REALLY WASN’T EVER TO GO PLAY IN THE NFL OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I KNEW I WANTED TO BE A FOOTBALL COACH AND WHAT A BETTER PLACE IT’S BEEN MORE THAN TWO DECADES, BUT SETH LUTTRELL HAS COME BACK HOME. THIS IS, YOU KNOW, THE NUMBER ONE PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY IN MY HEART. AND MY MIND. AND SO, YOU KNOW, YOU WANT TO COACH FOR THE BEST AND PLAY FOR THE BEST. I’M HUMBLED AND HONORED TO STAND HERE TODAY AFTER CLIMBING THE RANKS AS AN ASSISTANT, LUTTRELL SPENT SEVEN YEARS AS THE HEAD COACH AT NORTH TEXAS, TAKING OVER A TEAM THAT WAS ONE AND 11 AND THEN LEADING THE MEAN GREEN TO SIX BOWL GAMES. I WAS PROUD OF THE WAY THEY GUTTED IT OUT AND OBVIOUSLY PROUD OF THE RESULT. AND THEN RETURNING TO OKLAHOMA AS AN OFFENSIVE ANALYST IN 2023 AND PROMOTED TO OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND RETURNING TO NORMAN MEANS, WHERE HE PLAYED FOR JOHN BLAKE AND BOB STOOPS, AND WAS A CAPTAIN FOR THE SOONERS IN 2000. AND NORMAN IS WHERE HIS DAD PLAYED. JIM LUTTRELL WAS A FULLBACK AND HELPED THE SOONERS WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1974 AND 1975. I REMEMBER GROWING UP, WE HAD A KIND OF A IT WAS LIKE A MOUNTED WALL IN THE LIVING ROOM AND HAD ALL THOSE OLD GAME BALLS ON IT, AND SO WE WOULD SIT IN THE LIVING ROOM AND AT NIGHT I’D GO GRAB ONE OF THOSE GAME BALLS AND WE’D SIT IN THE LIVING ROOM AND WE’D THROW IT BACK AND FORTH TO EACH OTHER AND JUST, I WAS EATEN UP WITH IT. AND IT MEANT GROWING UP SOONER BORN AND SOONER BRED. IN THE ERA OF BARRY AND BOB, IT WAS AROUND 8586. KIND OF BEING ABLE. MY DAD BROUGHT ME TO A GAME AND COACH ALLOWED ME TO GO IN THE LOCKER ROOM. COACH SWITZER AND KIND OF HANG OUT BEFORE THE GAME AND MEET SOME OF THOSE PLAYERS. IT WAS I WAS IN AWE. STAR STARSTRUCK. IF YOU’RE GOING TO THE GAMES IN 85, 86, DOES THAT MEAN YOU HAD THE BYARS HAIRCUT? LIKE, DID YOU HAVE THE DID YOU HAVE THE, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY HAD EVERYBODY HAD THE BOX, EVERYBODY HAD THE BOB HAIRCUT. I ACTUALLY GOT A CHANCE TO MEET HIM AS A YOUNG CHILD, KIND OF IN THAT LOCKER ROOM. AND SO WHAT A GREAT MOMENT THAT WAS. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THE 2000 SEASON GOING DOWN TO THE ORANGE BOWL AND BEATING FLORIDA STATE? WELL, SOMETHING I’LL NEVER FORGET. IT WAS KIND OF ONE OF THOSE SEASONS TO WHERE YOU KIND OF BUILT THE MOMENTUM EARLY. BUT WE PEAKED KIND OF AT THE RIGHT TIME IN THAT OCTOBER, FINISHED OUT THE SEASON WELL, BUT WE HAD TO HAVE SOME BIG TIME PLAYS FROM SOME BIG TIME PLAYERS THROUGHOUT THAT YEAR IN ORDER TO WIN SOME OF THOSE. SO WE HAD A LOT OF TIGHT GAMES, BUT WE ALWAYS FOUND A WAY TO WIN. AND SETH SHARES WITH HIS FATHER A UNIQUE DISTINCTION IN THE HISTORY OF OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL. THEY ARE THE ONLY FATHER AND SON TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE SOONERS. WHEN YOU LOOK AROUND, I MEAN, YOU JUST DIDN’T HEAR THERE’S TROPHIES AND THERE’S ALL THE AWARDS AND ACCOLADES THAT COULD BE IN ONE BUILDING, BUT YOU AND YOUR DAD BEING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS HERE, THAT’S THAT’S UNIQUE TO YOU. YOU KNOW, JUST PLAYING THE SAME POSITION AND BEING ON THE SAME TEAM MY FATHER DID. THEY WENT IN TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND JUST, YOU KNOW, THAT’S WHAT YOU HEARD GROWING UP. AND SO GETTING THAT OPPORTUNITY IS A IS A BLESSING. AND I’M PROUD OF IT. FROM THE QUARTERBACK SPOT UNDERNEATH GETS A LOT TO SETH LITTRELL OVER THE RIGHT SIDE. BEING BACK AND HAVING THAT LOGO ON YOUR CHEST AND KNOWING WHAT IT MEANS AND IS WHAT DO YOU TELL GUYS WHEN YOU RECRUIT THEM? JUST ABOUT OH, YOU FAMILY, IT’S A BROTHERHOOD. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU PLAYED HERE IN. 1968 O
