ALL RIGHT. OKLAHOMA! WELCOME. THAT 914 HERE ON YOUR TUESDAY MORNING. AND AFTER 13 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF EDMOND, MAYOR DARRELL DAVIS ANNOUNCING HIS PLANS TO NOT SEEK REELECTION IN 2025. AND WE HAVE HIM IN STUDIO THIS MORNING WITH US. SO LET’S WELCOME IN MAYOR DAVIS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. GLAD TO BE HERE. WELL, LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS ANNOUNCEMENT YOU MADE IT A LITTLE LESS THAN A WEEK AGO, SAYING THAT YOU WILL NOT RUN FOR REELECTION. TALK ABOUT THAT DECISION. WELL, IT WAS A DECISION. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS. DID DID WE WANT TO DO ANOTHER TERM IN EDMOND AND CAME TO REALIZE THAT IT’S TIME FOR US TO STEP AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC LIFE AND JUST ENJOY EACH OTHER? MY WIFE AND I ARE GOING TO RETIRE BASICALLY AT THE SAME TIME AND GO ENJOY OURSELVES. JUST LIKE THIS MORNING, I MADE A CUP OF COFFEE AND WATER MY PLANTS. I THINK THAT’S SOMETHING I WANT TO DO, LIKE LOOK MORE INTO THAT. OKAY, SO YOU SAID IN YOUR POST WHEN YOU ANNOUNCED THIS, I HAVE SERVED THE CITIZENS OF EDMOND ON CITY COUNCIL FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS, SERVING TWO AND A HALF TERMS AS THE COUNCIL PERSON FOR WARD THREE. NOW YOU’RE COMPLETING YOUR SECOND TERM AS MAYOR. HOW HARD IS THIS DECISION FOR YOU TO STEP AWAY? IT’S GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I’M USED TO WAKING UP. I HAVE A PLAN AND AN AGENDA TO GO TO. SO HOW I’M GOING TO TRANSITION THAT, TO GO DO SOMETHING ELSE AND NOT SERVE THE PEOPLE OF EDMOND. AND THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS I’M REALLY GOING TO REALLY MISS THE MOST. SOME OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, THEY INCLUDE THE EDMOND 66 BALLPARK RENOVATIONS OF STEVENSON PARK AND THE KICKING BIRD GOLF COURSE. A LOT MORE ACCOMPLISHED DURING YOUR TENURE, BUT I DO WANT TO ASK YOU WHAT YOU WILL MISS MOST AS MAYOR AND ALSO, DO YOU FEEL FULFILLED IN EVERYTHING THAT YOU’VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH? WELL, WHAT I TRIED TO DO FOR EDMOND IS CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THAT WAS WELCOMING FOR EVERYBODY, FOR BUSINESSES, FOR COMMUNITIES, FOR, FOR, FOR PEOPLE, FOR FAMILIES. AND I THINK I’VE DONE THAT. AND I WANT THAT TO CONTINUE SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO GROW, TO BE THE COMMUNITY NORTH OF OKLAHOMA CITY AND BECAUSE YOU MOVED TO EDMOND FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS, SAFETY SCHOOLS AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE WE HAVE THAT NOW. LET’S KEEP ENHANCING THAT AND KEEP GOING FORWARD. I’M GLAD THAT YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT GOING FORWARD, BECAUSE WE DO WANT TO LOOK TO THE FUTURE HERE. NOW, WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO SEE IN TERMS OF QUALITIES OF A NEXT LEADER FOR THE CITY OF EDMOND? WELL, THE NEXT LEADER NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE COMMUNITY AND AND ALSO BE INVOLVED OUTSIDE OF THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE EDMOND HAS A REGIONAL IMPACT THAT IT HAS BEING ON NORTH OF OKLAHOMA CITY. AND WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT. AND I WANT THE NEXT LEADER. THEY CAN’T DUPLICATE ME, BUT TO BE ABLE TO GO OUT AND JUST HELP EDMOND CONTINUE TO GROW, BE A WELCOMING COMMUNITY THAT ANYONE THAT WHOEVER YOU ARE, THAT’S YOU’RE WELCOME. THEIR YOUR BUSINESSES, YOU’RE WELCOME THERE. AND JUST IT HELPED THIS PART OF OKLAHOMA CONTINUE TO BE THE BEST IT CAN BE. MAYOR DAVIS, WHEN IS YOUR LAST DAY? I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WONDERING ABOUT THAT. THAT’S GOING TO BE MAY OF 2025. THE FIRST WEEK IS NORMALLY WHEN WE HAVE THAT CEREMONY, I WILL CALL MEETING TO ORDER AND THEN BASICALLY IT’S FOR ME TO HAND THE GAVEL OVER TO THE NEXT MAYOR AND THEN THE NEXT MAYOR WILL TAKE OVER AND THEY WILL BE SWORN IN, AND I WILL WALK AWAY. YOU WILL WALK AWAY. SO WHEN YOU WALK AWAY BEFORE YOU DO THAT, WE DO WANT TO ASK YOU IF YOU HAVE A MESSAGE TO THE NEIGHBORS OUT THERE IN EDMOND. KEEP BEING NEIGHBORS. GET OUT. UNDERSTAND? UNDERSTAND THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, IN YOUR CITY, AND PARTICIPATE IN ALL THE ACTIVITIES THAT WE HAVE BECAUSE WE’RE THE COMMUNITY IS GROWING AND THE ASPECT WHERE WE’RE PUTTING MORE ACTIVITIES OUT THERE. ENJOY THOSE ACTIVITIES. DO THEM, AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER. I ALWAYS SAID IT TOOK A VILLAGE FOR ME TO RAISE MY FAMILY. I WANT EDMOND TO BE THAT VILLAGE FOR EVERYBODY ELSE TO HELP THEM RAISE THEIR FAMILIES. ALSO, MAYOR DAVIS, I REMEMBER THE LAST TIME WE HAD YOU IN AND I SPOKE TO YOU HERE ON THE COUCH. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT CYCLE 66. I HAVE TO SAY, YOU WERE DEFINITELY OUTSIDE BEING ACTIVE, LIVING UP TO THAT MESSAGE THAT YOU JUST SHARED. REALLY WELL SAID THERE. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN AND THANK YOU. TALKING TO US ABOUT THIS DECISION TO NOT RUN FOR REELECTION THIS UPCOMING YEAR. THANK YOU TO A
