KOCO FIVE NEWS WATCHING THE RADAR CLOSELY THIS EVENING, JUST IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MINUTES. BRAND NEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING WAS JUST ISSUED THERE FOR FAR NORTHERN OKLAHOMA UP NEAR ALVA. SO WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? THIS WAS THE FIRST CLUSTER OF STORMS THAT DEVELOPED AROUND 4:00. THAT WAS SEVERE UNTIL ABOUT 6:00. IT’S NO LONGER SEVERE, AT LEAST IN THE SENSE OF HAIL AND 60 MILE AN HOUR WINDS, BUT IT IS STILL DROPPING SOME NICE SOAKING RAIN RIGHT NOW FROM ELK CITY OUT NEAR BUTLER. AS YOU MAKE YOUR WAY DOWN TOWARDS CLINTON AND WEATHERFORD, SHANE HELTON, HE IS WATCHING THE STORM CLOSELY AS THIS CONTINUES TO MAKE ITS WAY DOWN TOWARDS I-40 HIM AND TUCKER OUT. THIS EVENING. SO NICE TO GET THE RAIN. THE HEAVY RAIN TOO. BY THE WAY. WE WILL ALWAYS TAKE THAT THIS TIME OF YEAR AND THIS IS ALSO GOING TO DROP THOSE TEMPERATURES BY QUITE A BIT OUT ACROSS WESTERN OKLAHOMA FOR THIS EVENING. SO ANY STORM THAT WE HAVE OUT THERE FOR TONIGHT IS PRIMARILY GOING TO BE A WIND PRODUCER AROUND 60, UP TO 70MPH. SO AGAIN, WATCHING THESE STORMS HERE FROM ELK CITY AS YOU MAKE WAY UP TOWARDS FAWCETT AND BUTLER HERE AND THEN HERE’S OUR NEWEST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. THAT WAS ISSUED JUST MOMENTS AGO. AND THAT IS GOING TO BE FOR WINDS THAT ARE GOING TO BE UP NEAR 60MPH. THAT STORM IS MOVING MORE SO UP TO THE NORTHEAST. AND SO IT’S GOING TO MAKE A RUN UP PRETTY CLOSE TO THE KANSAS BORDER HERE, UP NEAR CHEROKEE JET AND OUT BY WAKITA. SO AGAIN, THIS STORM JUST BECAME WARNED JUST ABOUT A MINUTE OR TWO AGO, SOUTHWEST OF CHEROKEE, NORTH OF LAMBERT, NORTH OF CARMEN. AND AGAIN, THAT IS MOVING UP TO THE NORTHEAST. SO IF YOU’RE WATCHING IN OKLAHOMA CITY RIGHT NOW, I KNOW YOU CAN LOOK OUTSIDE AND YOU CAN SEE THE STORM CLOUDS. WE’RE STILL A WAYS AWAY BEFORE ANY STMS MAY EVEN MAKE A RUN IN THE TOWN. LET ME SHOW YOU THE LATEST RIGHT NOW WITH OUR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH. THIS GOES UNTIL 11:00. DOES NOT INCLUDE OKLAHOMA OR CLEVELAND COUNTY HERE, BUT ANY STORM THAT DEVELOPS TONIGHT WILL HAVE THE THREAT FOR WINDS AS HIGH AS 70MPH. SO BETWEEN ABOUT NOW AND 7:00, STORM CHANCES ARE GOING TO BE GREATEST. REALLY TIED TO THAT CLUSTER THAT’S OUT ACROSS WESTERN OKLAHOMA. AND THEN JUST EAST OF ALVA. There's also a level-two slight risk in northern and northeastern Oklahoma.Jonathan says the threat is for isolated storms with damaging 60-70 mph winds. He also said the storms could produce 1-inch hail. Storms will move into the Panhandle before 7 p.m. on Friday before moving east and reaching the Oklahoma City metro after 10 p.m. Jonathan says they may not be in the area until after midnight.The storms will then move past Interstate 35 and along Interstate 40 around 1 a.m. on Saturday.Jonathan says Oklahoma should be done with storms for the weekend after that. Temperatures during the weekend, however, will be hot and reach the triple digits.Jonathan shows when you can expect to see storms in your area on Friday.
