AND PERSONNEL THAT WE CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE SCHOOLS IN OKLAHOMA ARE SAFE, AND SOMETHING THAT WE’VE JUST LEARNED RIGHT NOW. KOCO HAS CONFIRMED REPUBLICANS, THEY’RE CIRCULATING A LETTER RIGHT NOW THAT IS CALLING FOR AN IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION INTO YOU AND YOUR OFFICE. SO WHAT’S YOUR RESPONSE HERE? LOOK, YOU KNOW, IF THEY DECIDE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT, IT WOULD BE THE MOST UNPRECEDENTED MOVE IN STATE HISTORY TO UNDERMINE THE WILL OF THE OKLAHOMAN VOTERS. OKLAHOMA VOTERS ELECTED ME WILDLY, UH, INTO OFFICE. IT WAS OVER 10% OF THE VOTE THAT THEY PUT ME IN OFFICE. AND WHAT WE’VE SEEN ARE A GROUP OF MODERATE REPUBLICANS HAVE PARTNERED WITH DEMOCRATS. THESE ARE FOLKS THAT WANT PORNOGRAPHY IN YOUR KIDS SCHOOL. THESE ARE FOLKS THAT DON’T WANT THE BIBLE IN SCHOOL. THEY HAVE BEEN ATTACKING CHRISTIANITY. THESE ARE FOLKS THAT DO WHATEVER THE TEACHERS UNIONS TELL THEM TO, AND THEY WANT TO BRING BACK AN ERA OF THE TEACHER’S UNION CONTROLLING OUR SCHOOLS. WE’RE NOT GOING TO ALLOW THAT. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUT PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS IN CHARGE OF THEIR KIDS EDUCATION. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUT OKLAHOMA ON A PATH TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN EDUCATION. SO I WILL NEVER BACK DOWN TO MODERATE REPUBLICANS PARTNERING WITH DEMOCRATS TO TRY TO OVERTURN THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. WE’RE NOT GOING TO ALLOW IT MOVING FORWARD. I KNOW FAMILIES OUT THERE, VIEWERS OUT THERE AS WELL. THEY LOOK AT THE SITUATION BETWEEN YOURSELF, YOUR OFFICE AND STATE LEGISLATURES. WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR, YOU KNOW, FAMILIES, VOTERS OUT THERE HERE IN THE FUTURE WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING TOGETHER WITH STATE LEGISLATURE IN THE FUTURE? SURE. LOOK, WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE STATE LEGISLATURE. I HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH LEADERSHIP IN THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE. BUT HERE’S THE REALITY. I WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF OKLAHOMA. I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT FOR FAMILIES. I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT FOR CONSERVATIVE VALUES. AND WE’RE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE ARE INSTITUTED INTO OUR GOVERNMENT, INTO OUR SCHOOLS. I’M UNAPOLOGETIC ABOUT THAT. I WILL DEFEND THE FAMILIES OF OKLAHOMA AGAINST ANY OF THE STATUS QUO FORCES, AGAINST ANY SPECIAL INTEREST THAT FIGHT AGAINST THEM. SO I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT FOR THE FAMILIES OF OKLAHOMA. I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT FOR OUR KIDS. AND AGAIN, WE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SCHOOL YEAR. WE ARE PUTTING OKLAHOMA BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK. WE WILL NOT CONTINUE TO BE 49TH IN EDUCATION. THAT’S WHERE YOU SEE THESE REFORMS THAT WE’RE IMPLEMENTING ARE PUTTING US ON THE RIGHT TRACK, AND YOU HAVE AN ESTABLISHMENT GROUP OF FOLKS FIGHTING THAT. WELL, WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE

Oklahoma Republicans call for impeachment investigation into State Superintendent Ryan Walters

Oklahoma Republicans are circulating a letter calling for an impeachment investigation into State Superintendent Ryan Walters. In the letter to House Speaker Charles McCall, which you can read here, state Rep. Mark McBride expressed his concerns about Walters' recent actions."Since Superintendent Walters took office 18 months ago, I have grown increasingly concerned about the budget performance, spending priorities, and transparency surrounding the Department," McBride, the chairman of the Appropriations and Budget Subcommittee on Education, wrote. "Conditions at the Department, the manner in which the Superintendent and the Board of Education have treated members of the Legislature from both parties and from both the House of Representatives and the State Senate has been, to say the least, unprofessional, beneath the dignity of a statewide elected official, and most importantly, contrary to the best interest of the taxpayers and students of the State of Oklahoma."Some of the recent actions McBride lists in the letter include Walters allegedly denying entry to members of McBride's committee into executive sessions of the Board of Education; refusal or significant delays in answering questions from McBride's committee and from state Sen. Adam Pugh; not complying with legislative budgetary directives regarding administering school security funding; failing to turn over information about the expenditure of state funds for travel; failing to fulfill numerous records requests in a timely manner; and defying the Legislature's appropriations authority by refusing to provide required funding for critical asthma inhalers.Walters claims reports that he and the Oklahoma State Department of Education took back funds for school security are untrue and that they are looking into the legality of whether those funds roll over from year to year."To say school funds, school security funds were taken away is a complete lie. No funds were taken away. The question is legally can funds rollover or not," Walters said. This marks the latest time that an impeachment investigation into Walters has been called since he took office less than two years ago. The call for an investigation, however, marks the first by Republicans."If they decide to move forward with that, it would be the most unprecedented move in state history to undermine the will of the Oklahoman voters," Walters responded while on KOCO 5 News at 9 a.m. "We're going to continue to put parents and grandparents in charge of their kids' education. We're going to continue to put Oklahoma on a path to be successful in education. So, I will never back down to moderate Republicans partnering with Democrats to try to overturn the will of the people. We're not going to allow it."The latest call for an investigation comes as Walters faces pressure from Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond over delayed open records requests. Walters also recently made "disparaging comments" about Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Rob Miller following a disagreement over delayed Title I allocations.State Reps. Josh West, Ty Burns and Chris Banning – all Republicans – issued a statement on Monday about Walters calling Miller a "clown" and a "liar" on the social media platform X. "As former military leaders, we know the qualities that define good leadership: Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. Just as important are the lessons on how not to lead," West, Burns and Banning said in a joint statement. "Over the past four years, we've witnessed Ryan Walters' often questionable leadership and tactics. In the past two weeks, he has violated the Open Meetings Act, denied legislators access to executive sessions, deprived districts of rolled-over money meant for school safety and now is putting children's lives at risk by withholding appropriated funds for emergency asthma inhalers."After Walters chose to name-call Bixby Superintendent Rob Miller, a former Marine who faithfully served the Constitution and protected our rights, we decided we couldn't sit back any longer. Though we do not speak for others, we cannot stand by while a respected leader and veteran is insulted and demeaned for simply doing his job. Walters' behavior is unbecoming of any leader, especially the highest-ranking person in the Oklahoma public school system."Our time in the military taught us to listen to those serving on the front lines. That same principle applies here. School superintendents like Miller provide valuable insights into local issues, and yet Walters refuses to listen to those around him or take responsibility for his missteps."As elected officials, paid with taxpayer dollars and entrusted with the future of our state, we must hold ourselves accountable to Oklahomans and have the integrity to admit when we are wrong. We had hoped Walters would eventually grow into his role, but after two years of problematic leadership tactics, our patience is wearing thin."
