An arrest affidavit said Merle Southwick, 71, was murdered in his home days before his brother went to pick him up for church and discovered his body on Sunday.
“He’s always been with me, and I don’t know what I’m going to do now,” said Stan Southwick, the victim’s brother.
A heartbroken family is now finding out some answers to their loved one’s killing. The 64-year-old suspect lived with Merle Southwick in the home near Southeast 66th Street and Shields Boulevard, according to the affidavit.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry or the house being ransacked after officers arrived, but a gun was missing from the home, according to the affidavit.
Police said Merle Southwick’s car title was recently transferred to his roommate’s name, and the roommate allegedly sold the victim’s motorcycle to a pawn show just days before his body was found, according to the affidavit.
“I don’t understand it, I just don’t, and it’s very heartbreaking because he didn’t deserve it,” said Annie Sterline, a close friend of Merle Southwick.
On Wednesday, an Oklahoma County judge set the suspect’s bond at $10 million.
KOCO 5 is not naming the suspect as formal charges have not been filed.
