Kevin Stitt and Attorney General Gentner Drummond. An invitation shows that a photo opportunity with Vance costs $15,000 per person. Vance, a 39-year-old U.S. senator from Ohio who also is a venture capitalist and author of "Hillbilly Elegy," was named Donald Trump's running mate during the Republican National Convention. He has quickly risen through the ranks in the past year to the shortlist of picks to be on the Republican ticket with Trump. Vance recently entered the political scene, beating out former U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan for Ohio's U.S. Senate seat in 2022. When Vance was sworn into office in 2023, he became the first U.S. senator from Ohio to hold office without any previous government experience since John Glenn.Vance used to be an outspoken critic of Trump, but a friendship started on both sides when Donald Trump Jr. reached out to Vance about his book.
