Mayor David Holt said during his State of the City address on Tuesday that there's work to be done with the possibility of Olympic events coming to Oklahoma City in 2028.While the venues for a possible hosting of the 2028 Olympic events are already in place — like Riversport OKC for canoe slalom and Devon Park for softball — the next big step is getting ready for any other needs as droves of people could come to the city."There's obviously more to our role," Holt said. "Beyond Paris in the months to come, there will be much to say about the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and this historic opportunity."Holt said the city is determined, and a big part of that is pushing Oklahoma City toward future events like possibly hosting the 2028 Olympic Games. For now, the decision is still up to the Los Angeles City Council, but the mayor said they'll be gearing up all the same. "We will anticipate it every day for the next four years. The events themselves will dominate our city's life in the summer of 2028," Holt said.During the State of the City address, he told community leaders that the process started six years ago over dinner with the Los Angeles mayor after he was asked what he would think about aiding in hosting duties."For now, we will continue to respect and monitor the process as it plays out in Los Angeles," Holt said.In the meantime, Holt encourages Oklahoma City residents to get as familiar with river sports this Olympics as they are with softball."Canoe slalom begins this Saturday and continues for 10 days. I would strongly encourage you to tune in and start raising your knowledge level," Holt said. "You are already unquestionably the best softball fans in the world.
