Police are searching for the motivation behind a shooting that left one person dead late Sunday night at a southeast Oklahoma City home.
Shortly after 10 p.m., police responded to a shooting at a home near Southeast 62nd Street and Lindsay Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a shooting victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the victim as 33-year-old Gary Andrew Westrick.
Police told KOCO 5 that a couple had Westrick over at their house when something went wrong. They said whatever happened led the man who lived there to grab a gun and shoot their guest.
"It is unclear at this point what led up to the shooting," MSgt. Gary Knight said. "We know there were three people inside the residence. They all knew each other. All had been visiting for a while."
At some point during the visit, the man who lived at the home got upset for an unknown reason and allegedly fatally shot Westrick.
"Everybody stayed at the scene. The suspect was interviewed briefly by officers and then, ultimately, booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center," Knight said.
The scene was filled with officers late Sunday night going into Monday morning as they investigated. Now that the scene is clear, police said they still want to know why the situation escalated.

"It's still very early in the investigation, so detectives are trying to determine exactly why this happened," Knight said. "But for whatever reason, one of them became upset, retrieved a firearm and killed the other."
The man who shot and killed Westrick was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center. KOCO 5 has not released the suspect's name because formal charges have not been filed.
