KOCO 5 Meteorologist Jonathan Conder says there will be two main waves of severe weather. The first is a level-one marginal threat that could produce 60 mph winds and 1-inch hail from daybreak until 3 p.m. on Thursday.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Comanche, Jackson, Kiowa and Tillman counties as the first wave starts in western Oklahoma. The storms move into west-central Oklahoma from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then into central Oklahoma, including the OKC metro, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. before moving east of Interstate 35 after 1 p.m.
The second wave comes in after 10 p.m. for most of Oklahoma, and the threat goes up to a level-two slight risk for central Oklahoma, including the OKC metro, and the western part of the state. Jonathan says those storms could produce 70 mph winds and come with a low tornado risk.
The second wave will start in the Panhandle before 7 p.m. and will track into western Oklahoma between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and then part of central Oklahoma from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday. Jonathan says storms should be in the OKC metro and east of I-35 from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday.
