COOPERATED WITH POLICE. A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION IS NOW BEING LAUNCHED INTO THE OWASSO PUBLIC SCHOOLS AFTER THE DEATH OF NEXT. BENEDICT. NEXT WAS 16 YEARS OLD AND NON BINARY, MEANING THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY AS MALE OR FEMALE. THEY DIED ONE DAY AFTER A FIGHT IN THE SCHOOL BATHROOM. A CAUSE OF DEATH HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, BUT OFFICIALS SAY IT WAS NOT DUE TO TRAUMA. THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SAYS THEY DECIDED TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION AFTER A COMPLAINT FROM THE HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN. The U.S. Department of Education has launched a federal investigation into Owasso Public Schools following the death of Nex Benedict.The 16-year-old nonbinary student died on Feb. 8, a day after getting into a fight in a bathroom at Owasso High School.
