CITY BROKE GROUND ON THIS PROJECT, MOVING DIRT OUT AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT IN. THE CITY OF EDMOND STARTING AN $8.1 MILLION PROJECT TO BUILD FIRE STATION SIX, THE CITY’S FIRST NEW FIRE STATION SINCE 2005. WHAT’S AN EMPTY PLOT OF LAND NOW? SOON TO BE A FIRE STATION. AND WHAT EDMOND’S MAYOR CALLS ONE OF THE BUSIEST PARTS OF TOWN. NOW, THE FIRE CHIEF TELLS ME THAT THIS WILL HELP THEIR RESPONSE TIME. MINUTES COUNT, SECONDS COUNT AT TIMES, AND SO THIS THE RESPONSE WILL AFFECT ALL OF OUR CALLS. WE’LL BE ABLE TO RESPOND QUICKLY. MORE QUICKLY FROM THIS LOCATION, THE CHIEF SAYS. THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF EDMOND IS BOOMING WITH NEW HOUSES AND DEVELOPMENTS. THIS QUADRANT OF THE CITY IS THE MOST POPULATED AREA OF OUR CITY THAT DOESN’T HAVE A FIRE STATION WITHIN A CLOSE PROXIMITY. SO WHEN THIS STATION IS BUILT, IT’S GOING TO KEEP US IN OUR 4 MINUTE TO 5 MINUTE TIME FRAME THAT’S GOING TO ALLOW US TO KEEP PUBLIC SAFETY AT AT ITS HIGHEST. RIGHT NOW, THE CLOSEST EDMOND FIRE STATION TO THIS AREA IS FIRE STATION THREE, WHICH IS THREE MILES AWAY. THE EDMOND FIRE CHIEF SAYS THE NEW STATION WILL HOUSE UP TO SEVEN FIREFIGHTERS NOW, AS CONSTRUCTION BEGINS. I WAS TOLD THEY’LL BE OUT HERE DOING HEAVY DIRT WORK ON MONDAY AND THEY’LL BE WORKING. IT’S A 15 MONTH CONTRACT. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THEY LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING RESIDENTS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE COME SUMMER 2025.
