Winter is still holding on, but February can be a month of transition as we look for signs of an early spring or a winter that does not want to let go. January was frigid, and the month of February will begin with mild temperatures that will linger into the middle of the month.
A series of storm systems will track out of the west and move into Oklahoma as we approach mid-month, bringing a good chance for below-average temperatures and a return of winter chill. There have been signs of another surge of cold air coming out of Canada, but the core of that cold air will likely stay east of Oklahoma, with many of us getting clipped with a brief cool down. That is something we will need to watch.
Otherwise, this wetter pattern will continue for what is usually the second-driest month of the year. If there's any chance for wintry weather, it won't arrive until mid-month or later.
