Video: How one Home Depot employee goes out of his way to make customers feel like family
A longtime Home Depot employee at a store near Reno, Nevada, is something of a staple at the store and in the local community.
That's not just because he can tell you exactly where the staples are in the store. It's because he's known for spreading cheer — not just at the holidays, but all year round — to anyone who walks through the Home Depot's doors.
Some might say that Jerry Trotter, an employee at the store in Spanish Springs, Nevada, is also a model of what it means to have a strong work ethic, to show gratitude every day, and to be kind to fellow humans.
He's loved by his coworkers. He told KOLO that he calls them his "Home Depot family."
"Every day I say 'good morning' to my Home Depot family, and we are a family," Jerry said.
But he also loves the customers — many of whom seek him out just to say "Hi" or hug him, and several of whom have given Jerry good customer reviews.
"When I come here ... I have little kids that call me Uncle Jerry, and it's just good man," Jerry explained to KOLO. "I don't know how to explain it. It's just a good vibe all around and I'm so proud to be here and I'm happy and I love it."
He later added, "It's like one big family man. The kids love me, dogs, everybody so I just give love back."
Jerry is grateful and proud to come to work every day.
"It's something I look forward to do every day. I'm really blessed that again, that Home Depot chose me, because there's a lot of applications they could have took, but they picked mine," he said.
His pride in his work and his warmth with the customers have scored Jerry several Home Depot Homer Awards. He's also been named Associate of the Month multiple times.
