Verden Public Schools is mourning the loss of a second grade student killed in a crash Monday evening in Grady County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said in a collision report that a 7-year-old girl from Verden was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday evening near Pocasset. The driver was taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition, and two passengers, ages 5 and 10, were taken to a Chickasha hospital in stable and fair condition.
The 7-year-old's name has not been released because of her age.
Verdin Public Schools Superintendent Mickey Edwards wrote a letter expressing that the district is mourning a second grader at Verden Elementary School killed in a crash Monday.
"Our hearts are broken this morning as we mourn the loss of a precious member of our school family – a second grader at Verden Elementary School," Edwards wrote. "The student and members of her family were involved in a car accident yesterday evening. We extend our deepest sympathy and support to those involved. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers."

Counselors are available for the school's community on Tuesday.
"Verden is a close-knit community. In our school family, no one experiences pain or loss alone," Edwards wrote. "Our students, parents and staff take pride in caring for one student."
