BEEN AROUND FOR MORE THAN SIX DECADES, AND FOR A GOOD CHUNK OF TIME, THIS IS THE LOOK PLAYERS, COACHES AND TEAMS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING. BUT THAT’S ALL ABOUT TO CHANGE. THIS IS THE ORGANIZATION’S NEW LOOK. KOCO SPORTS ANCHOR ELGIN RUCKER IS IN STUDIO RIGHT NOW WITH MORE ON THIS. THIS IS BIG NEWS HERE, ELGIN. YEAH, IT IS. AND YOU KNOW GUYS, YOU HEAR PEOPLE SAY IT ALL THE TIME, RIGHT? NEW YEAR, NEW ME. AND IT ALWAYS SOUNDS GOOD UNTIL THOSE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS GET THROWN OUT THE WINDOW. BUT FOR THE OKLAHOMA CITY DODGERS THEY MEAN IT IN FACT, WE CAN’T EVEN CALL THEM THE DODGERS ANYMORE. SO ALLOW ME TO REINTRODUCE THE TEAM YOU KNOW AND LOVE AS THE OKLAHOMA CITY BASEBALL CLUB. AND WITH THE NEW NAME COMES NEW LOGOS, UNIFORMS AND FAN GEAR STARTING IN 2024. NOW THE NAME IS TEMPORARY AS THE TEAM IS WORKING ON WHAT THEY’RE CALLING A BRAND IDENTITY TRANSITION TOWARD A UNIQUE AND LOCAL NAME. SO LET’S BREAK DOWN WHAT THAT MEANS RIGHT NOW. STARTING NEXT SEASON, OKC WILL PLAY AS THE OKLAHOMA CITY BASEBALL CLUB, DROPPING THE DODGERS FROM THE TEAM NAME THAT WILL BE THE TEAM’S TEMPORARY NAME UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON, WHICH IS WHEN TEAM OFFICIALS PLAN TO UNVEIL THE TEAM’S NEW PERMANENT NAME FOR THE 2025 SEASON AND BEYOND. THEY HAVEN’T FIGURED THAT OUT YET. OKC WILL STILL REMAIN THE TRIPLE-A AFFILIATE FOR THE LA DODGERS. THAT AGREEMENT LASTS UNTIL AT LEAST 2030, BUT PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER MICHAEL BURNS SAYS THIS REBRAND IS FOR THE PEOPLE OF OKLAHOMA CITY. WE IDENTIFIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT’S LOCAL AND SOMETHING THAT OKC CAN REALLY EMBRACE. UH, 120 MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAMS ACROSS OUR INDUSTRY, AND THEY HAVE SOME OF THE MOST UNIQUE AND REALLY QUIRKY NAMES WANTED TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT WAS REALLY OURS. DAMON LANE JUST SAID THEY SHOULD GO WITH THE OKC TWISTERS, AND I THINK I CAN GET BEHIND THAT CAMPAIGN NOW. OKC WON THE 2023 PCL CHAMPIONSHIP BACK IN SEPTEMBER, ITS FIRST LEAGUE TITLE SINCE 1996, WHICH PUT THEM IN THE TRIPLE-A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Goodbye to the Oklahoma City Dodgers name! Oklahoma City's triple-A baseball team announced it will undergo a brand transition with a new team name. Effective immediately, the team will operate under the temporary name of the Oklahoma City Baseball Club. Following the 2024 season, the team will unveil a permanent name. Although the organization will no longer be known as the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the team will remain an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. “For the last nine years, it has been an honor and a privilege to share one of the most iconic brands in all of professional sports,” said Oklahoma City Baseball Club President and General Manager Michael Byrnes in a news release. “However, we’re excited this new era affords us the opportunity to strengthen our connection to our community and reinforce that we are Oklahoma City’s team.”>> Download the KOCO 5 App The process of determining what the team's permanent name will be is already underway, according to a news release.
