With Oklahoma set to join the SEC next football season, will Saturday be the last time the Sooners and Cowboys face off in a Bedlam game?

RIVALRY COULD CONTINUE FOR BOTH. HEAD COACHES WERE ASKED ABOUT IT THIS WEEK. WHAT DO THEY MAKE OF THIS BEING THE LAST BEDLAM? IT DOESN’T FEEL WEIRD. IT JUST FEELS LIKE IT’S OKLAHOMA STATE AND IT’S A BIG GAME AND WE NEED TO FIND A WAY TO WIN THIS ONE. DOESN’T MATTER. SEE WHAT I’M SAYING? SO WE CAN’T GET OUT OF OUR BOX. OSU HEAD COACH MIKE GUNDY ARGUED AS COLLEGE FOOTBALL HAS CHANGED, SO HAS THE RIVALRY. A ONCE BITTER FACE OFF HAS BECOME SOMEWHAT FRIENDLY. IT WAS A RIVALRY THEN. NOW IT’S NOT AS MUCH ANYMORE. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT IS. BUT IT’S A VERY IMPORTANT GAME. I DON’T WANT TO PUSH PAST THAT. THE COWBOYS COACH GOING AS FAR TO SAY BEDLAM WON’T BE COMING BACK. WE’LL EVENTUALLY PLAY THEM AGAIN. I THINK IT WILL BE IN A BOWL LIKE THEY’LL BE BOWL WITH SEC AND BIG 12 HAD A LOT OF BOWL MATCHUPS AND I THINK THAT THAT’LL PROBABLY BE THE NEXT TIME REGULAR SEASON IS IN MY OPINION, IS HISTORY. SO COULD ANYTHING BE DONE TO KEEP THE RIVALRY ALIVE? THEY’RE BOTH STATE SCHOOLS. COULD ELECTED OFFICIALS GET INVOLVED? IT’S NOT UNHEARD OF, AT LEAST IN FLORIDA. FLORIDA STATE AND FLORIDA WOULDN’T COMMIT TO AN ANNUAL GAME UNTIL A BILL REQUIRING THE GAME WAS FILED IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE. BACK IN THE 1950S. WHILE THE BILL DIDN’T GO ANYWHERE, ACCORDING TO THE TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, DURING A CLOSED DOOR MEETING FOR HIS GOVERNOR, FINALLY GOT THE SCHOOLS TO AGREE TO A YEARLY MEETING STARTING IN 1958. SO WHY NOT DO THE SAME IN OKLAHOMA? COULD YOU SEE YOURSELF TRYING THAT? YOU KNOW, IT IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE. YOU KNOW, IT’S SOMETHING THAT THAT WE’VE CONSIDERED AND I’VE JOKED AROUND WITH LIKE, HEY, LET’S LET’S PASS A LAW TO MAKE OU AND OSU PLAY EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I KNOW THE FANS WOULD LOVE IT, BUT ALSO I’M TRYING. I WANT YOU TO BE ABLE TO WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND AN OSU TO COMPETE FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. AND SO HAVING SUCH A TOUGH NONCONFERENCE GAME EVERY YEAR IS COMPLICATED AS WELL. SO SO THERE’S, THERE’S MULTIPLE THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHAT’S BEST FOR BOTH UNIVERSITIES. WE SEARCHED THROUGH SEVERAL NOTABLE RIVALRIES AND DIDN’T FIND ANY MANDATED BY STATE GOVERNMENTS. LAST WE HEARD FROM EITHER SCHOOL, OSU SAYS THEIR SCHEDULES ARE PRETTY MUCH SET OR THE SCHOOL’S ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, CHAD WEIBERG, SAYS HE CAN’T SEE ANOTHER BEDLAM HAPPENING UNTIL AT LEAST 2030. OU’S JOE CASTIGLIONE ALSO BELIEVES 2030 WILL LIKELY BE THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY AND TELLS ESPN THEY QUOTE IT TA
