METEOROLOGIST SAY, ALL DAY, ROUNDS OF RAIN ARE EXPECTED THIS WEEK IN OKLAHOMA. AND THERE’S EVEN A FLOOD WATCH. YEAH, METEOROLOGIST SABRINA BATES SPOKE WITH THE OKLAHOMA CITY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE PLAN THEY USE YEAR ROUND SO THAT THEY ARE READY FOR HEAVY RAIN EVENTS LIKE WE’RE GOING TO SEE THIS WEEK WITH HEAVY RAIN IN THE FORECAST THIS WEEK. THE PHRASE TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN IS SO IMPORTANT HERE IN THE CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY IS PREPARED IN CASE YOU START TO SEE THAT WATER RISE ON YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ROADS. BE CAUTIOUS TOMORROW, TOMORROW MORNING, WHEN YOU WAKE UP, YOU’RE GOING TO EITHER BE IN THE RAIN OR IT’S GOING TO BE A LOT OF RAIN OUT THERE. OKLAHOMA CITY PUBLIC WORKS HAVE BEEN PREPARING AND ARE READY IF LOCAL FLOODING WERE TO HAPPEN THIS WEEK. CURRENTLY, WE HAVE TEAMS ON ALERT, MEANING IF THEY NEED TO COME IN, WE’LL CALL THEM IN ON DAYS WITH FLOODING AND HIGH WATER. THOSE TEAMS WILL EITHER SHUT DOWN ROADS OR PUT OUT ADVISORY SIGNS TO HELP YOU MAKE AN EDUCATED DECISION TO TURN AROUND AND GO THE OTHER WAY. WE GO WITH THE SIX INCH RULE. BASICALLY, IF YOU CAN’T SEE THE CURVE, WE’RE GOING TO PUT OUT A HIGH ADVISORY. IF IT’S HIGHER THAN THAT, WE SAY YOU GET MANHOLE. LET’S START FLOATING THAT KIND OF THING. AND THE SYSTEMS JUST IMPACTED BY THE SURGE OF WEATHER. WE’LL SHUT A ROAD DOWN IF IT’S IMPASSABLE. MONITORING THE AREA FOR FLOODING, EVEN HAPPENS YEAR ROUND FOR THESE TEAMS. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE PROBABLY SEEN THE CONCRETE DRAINAGE CANALS BEHIND THEIR HOUSE OR THE DIRT ONES, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE. WE HAVE CREWS THAT WORK 24 WELL, NOT 24 OVER SEVEN, BUT YEAR ROUND TO MAINTAIN THOSE REPAIR THEM IF THEY’RE DAMAGED AND CLEAR OUT ANY MAJOR OVERGROWTH OR DEBRIS BUILD UP JUST IN CASE. WHEN WE COME INTO WEEKS LIKE THIS, WE DON’T GET HUGE BLOCKAGES AND AND SERIOUS FLOODING. THERE ARE AREAS THEY PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO FOR FLOODING LIKE AREAS WITH MINIMAL DRAINAGE. BUT ANYTHING CAN REALLY CAUSE YOUR STREET TO FLOOD. I MEAN, THE TURNAROUND DON’T DROWN IS A GREAT PHRASE. AND WE’VE SEEN PEOPLE THAT SHOULD DO IT. AND I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANY MORE THAN I HAVE TO. SO PLEASE JUST GO THE OTHER WAY. IN OKLAHOM
