A NEW SURVEY SAYS ABOUT THE CITY’S TOURISM SCENE. WE BROKE A RECORD FOR MOST VISITATION, WITH OVER 23 MILLION ANNUAL VISITORS VISIT OKC SAYS THAT’S NOT THE ONLY RECORD BROKEN IN THE LAST YEAR. WE BROKE A RECORD FOR DIRECT ECONOMIC IMPACT FOR TOURISM, SO WE CROSSED THAT 4 BILLION MARK TO $4.3 BILLION. STEPH THERE SAY THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT FACTORS ON WHY THERE ARE MORE VISITORS. THE FIRST, THERE ARE MORE EVENTS BEING HELD IN CITY LIMITS WITH MORE VENUES TO HOST THEM. WE HAVE THE NEW CONVENTION CONVENTION CENTER AND BIGGER CONVENTIONS THAT ARE COMING HERE. WE HAVE SPORTS AND EQUINE EVENTS THAT ARE HAPPENING AT THE OKLAHOMA CITY FAIRGROUNDS. A RECENT SURVEY BY TOURISM ECONOMICS LOOKED AT THINGS LIKE VISITATION DATA, HOTEL OCCUPANCY AND LODGING DATA AND THE LOCAL FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY. LINDSEY SAYS THERE ARE SOME SPECIFIC THINGS TOURISTS LIKE THE CITY’S DIFFERENT DISTRICTS, THE RIVER SPORT COMPLEX AND MUSEUMS WERE SOME OF THE TOP ITEMS 1 IN 20 JOBS IN OKLAHOMA CITY ARE SUPPORTED THROUGH TOURISM, AND THAT’S NOT REALLY SOMETHING WE EXPECT. AND IT’S ANTICIPATED MORE JOBS WILL BE AVAILABLE ALONG WITH MORE TOURISM. OKLAHOMA CITY’S VISITATION ECONOMY IS DEFINITELY ON THE RISE. WE’VE INVESTED IN OURSELVES THROUGH A LOT OF DIFFERENT QUALITY OF LIFE PROJECTS WITH MAPS AND OTHER INVESTMENTS PRIVATELY THAT ARE ARE NOT JUST GREAT FOR US LOCALS, BUT ALSO VISITORS WANT TO COME IN AND EXPERIENCE AS WELL. There are several different factors on why there are more visitors. First, there are more events being held within city limits with more venues to host them. “We have a new convention center and bigger conventions coming here. We have sports and equine events that are happening at the OKC Fairgrounds," Vidrine said. A recent survey by Tourism Economics looked at things like visitation data, hotel occupancy and lodging data, and the local food and beverage industry. Vidrine said there are some specific things tourists like, such as the city's different districts, the Riversport complex and museums.
